George Karl’s beer stein is half empty or half full, depends on how you want to look at it. His plaintive cries of ‘I’ll do it my way’ has caused the streets of Milwaukee to be littered with the stench of stale beer. Imagine the pucker that is now probably drawn across the Senator’s face as he realizes that the concoction he has been brewing in Milwaukee has now reached its expiration date. Three of Karl’s assistants have decided to leave during the off-season and that aint good. I heard he was going to ask Laverne and Shirley to fill two of the vacated spots just to shake things up a bit. But I digress from the matter at hand.
Is this the demise of George Karl? Last year’s debacle of in-house fighting, the addition of Anthony Mason, and not making the playoffs has exposed the lack of chemistry between the players and the coaching staff. What makes the defections even more noticeable is the departure of Tim Grgurich, Karl’s long time assistant who came over with him from Seattle.
Glen Robinson a double-digit scorer was traded for Tony Kukoc and Leon Smith from Atlanta. That doesn’t seem like a fair trade to me. Kukoc has never really live up to his billing as the pink panther of the Euro league and Leon Smith is a throw away player.
Karl has just come off a jaunt at the World Basketball Championships where he will be forever known as the first USA basketball coach to not medal in the WBC games. How is that for a boost of confidence? I can see Ray Allen and Sam I Am rushing to defend their coaches’ honor now. The silence is deafening and the sour taste increases.
The veteran presence that Scott Williams brought to this team has left ominous repercussions in the locker room since his departure. Now Darvin Ham the energizer bunny has recently signed with the same Hawks, who duped them in this lopsided trade.
Will George Karl recover enough confidence to lead his troops? How will Ray Allen deal with the aftermath of an injury-riddled year? Staaay tuned… same Karl channel same Karl time.
