The
Raptors aren't missing Mark Jackson and his shoddy defense. In his first
four games as a starter, Toronto point guard Alvin Williams has averaged
around 13 points and 9 assists a game. He's much quicker than Jackson and
plays better defense. (At this point Jackson can't guard a painting let
alone quick NBA guards.) This isn't to put Jackson down, however, as he's
very happy to return home to New York and fits just fine into New York's
slow, deliberate half-court style. Mark was just one point away from a
triple-double in the team's win against the Sonics a few days ago. Jackson
also fits in by producing inconsistently, a recent Knicks tradition from
the backcourt.
The
Rockets totally own the Eastern conference.
Kobe
Bryant returned from injury to score 38 points, while Shaq only managed
15 shots. The Lakers lost that game, to the Nuggets. We wonder if Kobe
had a chance to see how easy it is for other Lakers to score when Shaq
is the focal point of the offense. And, if scoring comes easy you've got
more energy to play better defense, right?
Marcus
Camby is putting up huge stats lately. Huge. Cambyland had a big game against
Pat Ewing a few days ago, and last night against the Celtics he scored
27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.
Tim
Duncan has only played 3 1/2 seasons yet has produced 200 double-doubles.
Jeff
Van Gundy is now 3rd all-time in wins as a Knicks coach. He's got 224 of
them, behind Red Holzman (613) and Joe Lapchick (326).
Rasheed
Wallace is scoring around 30 points a game with about 56% shooting over
his last 6 games. Equally impressive is Rasheed's seemingly intensified
hatred of NBA media as well as league referees.
Dikembe
Mutumbo is averaging around 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks per game
as a Sixer. The Heat had the pleasure of going up against Philly and their
new Mount last night. Brian Grant and Anthony Mason combined to shoot 2
of 21. Philly won. Dikembe is fitting in just fine.
