What
An Answer By
KENNY ELLER Clermont,

When
this years All-Star game began on the hardwood floor of the MCI Center
in Washington, D.C., the Eastern Conference squad and its coach Larry Brown
were facing quite a large dilemma. How in the world were they going
to stop a much more physically stronger, taller and highly favored Western
Conference team consisting of eight players over the 6'9" tall? It
was just a question. One that might be tough for most coaches and
teams, but not for Larry Brown and the East All-Stars. You see, Larry
Brown is used to having "The Answer" and the rest of the Eastern team is
used to watching him. Allen Iverson simply took over. The most diminutive
player in the game put on a display that will not soon be forgotten, on
his way to claiming MVP honors. He led his team back from a 21-point
deficit and with some help from teammates pulled off the unthinkable, a
111-110 win. Dropping 15 of his game high 25 points in the all-important
fourth quarter, Allen Iverson made every person in America who has been
told they can't, hold their head up high and say, "Yes I can."
If
you've ever picked up a basketball and gone down to the local park, you
have to appreciate what Iverson is able to do once he laces up the sneakers
and goes to work. He is the one player in all of the league that
people actually hope is larger than his listed height and weight of 6'0",
165 pounds. The NBA is a big man's game, especially when you look
at the league compared with the average human being. Yet, here is
Allen Iverson, someone who resembles us in physical terms, taking it right
at the big guys and winning.
The
Philadelphia 76ers are doing plenty of winning, also. At the break
the Sixers were the bearers of the leagues best record with 36 wins to
only 14 losses. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of questions.
Will Philly keep it up? Can Allen Iverson hold up to the constant
abuse he sustains on a nightly basis? Is any team from the East actually
going to be able to beat the team that comes out of the West?
Maybe
Allen Iverson is indeed "The Answer" to all of these questions.
