The
Trail Blazers may be red hot lately but don't hand them the championship,
or even Pacific Division title, just yet. Chris Webber and the Kings handled
Portland last night, 111-101. Webber scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds,
and Peja Stojakovic shot 7 of 12 for 20 points. This is only the 2nd time
in 34 tries that Sacramento has won in Portland.
The
Mavericks heated up to stop one of the league's hottest teams, the Nuggets.
Dirk Nowitzki poured in 27 points, and Mike Finley had 23. The Mavs are
now 3-0 against Denver this season. The score was 53-43 at half-time, and
57-43 in the 3rd to mark the beginning of the end for Denver. Howard Eisley
had 10 assists. Hubert Davis came off the bench to score 17. Dallas only
shot 38%, but poured in 8 of 18 3-pointers. The Nuggets only managed to
shoot 34%. Final score was Dallas 97, Denver 79.
The
Nets really needed a weak opponent like Chicago right now. New Jersey won
at home, 123-103, thanks to a the first career triple-double for Stephon
Marbury. He had 33 points (12-22 shooting), 12 assists, and 11 rebounds.
Keith Van Horn had his best game of the season with 31 points, and Aaron
Williams went nuts with 15 points, 11 rebounds. Elton Brand had 28 and
10, and Ron Mercer added 22 for the Bulls. No one else showed up. Chicago
has now lost 8 straight, and the Nets have somehow managed to win 3 of
their last 4 games.
David
Robinson could have won the game had he hit a free throw with 2.6 seconds
left in overtime, but he didn't, so Orlando pulls off a win over San Antonio
- 112-109. Tracy McGrady shot just 12 of 33 for 38 points. This is the
first time Orlando has won in San Antonio since April of 1992. The Spurs
are hurting and have lost 4 straight. Tim Duncan doesn't scare people like
he used to, and his squad really needs a spark. Injuries have screwed them
over, so don't write them off just yet. Terry Porter, who is about 84 years
old, could have tied the game at the end but he missed a 3-pointer. David
Robinson was huge with 28 and 14 rebounds but as stated above, he missed
a big free throw. The refs were on Orlando's side late in overtime by calling
a 3-pointer that Porter did make a 2, instead.
