Quick NBA Wrapup

By INSIDEHOOPS.COM

On Thursday, Don Nelson had his cancerous prostate removed, and there were no signs that the disease spread to other parts of his body. He'll remain in the hospital for a few more days and then head home. Everything should be fine with Don.

If you're an NBA player, coach, manager or owner you are not allowed to criticize the referees. You can allude to negativity, but you can't just flat out declare how much they suck. Mark Cuban has done that a few times and the NBA has now slapped a TREMENDOUS fine on him - $250,000. While that kind of money is about $100 to you and I, that's still a hefty sum of cash just for making statements that were fairly accurate.

John Starks has been causing trouble in Utah and has been suspended for two games by coach Jerry Sloan. It's over some silly stuff like going to hang out with friends instead of taking the team bus with everyone else, and perhaps some obnoxious comments. It's not important enough for us to investigate.

Oh yeah, the games! Guess we should mention the highest of the highlights:

Jerry Stackhouse scored a career-high 46 points on the Rockets last night. Houston won, 107-97, but Stack did all he could. He shot 15 of 27, and 13 of 14 from the free throw line.

Who guarded Tracy McGrady for much of the 2nd half last night? Marcus Camby. Sprewell and Houston couldn't contain him, so Marcus got a shot at it and did pretty well. McGrady finished with 36 points, but most of them were scored on guys other than Marcus, plus he was held in check down the stretch when it counted the most. Camby had 22 points and 12 rebounds in NY's overtime win.

New York has held their opponent below 100 for the 27th consecutive time, one game shy of the all-time record which is held by the Ft. Wayne Pistons, set in 1955.

Anthony Mason had 18 points, 13 rebounds to help the Heat edge out the Nets, 81-78. Miami has won 5 home games in a row. The Heat showed just how well they can blow a lead, as the Nets came roaring back in the fourth quarter.

Elton Brand hit a buzzer-beater to give the Bulls a 2-point win over the Wizards. It was an epic battle. These two teams combine for a record of 13 wins, 51 losses.
