Basketball Team Interviews: Pistons
NBA Playoffs / June 4, 2005
The Miami Heat lead the Detroit Pistons three games to two in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference finals of the 2005 NBA playoffs. Here's what Pistons coach Larry Brown and players Chauncey Billups and Lindsey Hunter said on the off-day between games five and six:
LARRY BROWN
Miami was great. They had contributions from a lot of people and I don’t think we played the way we’re supposed to play. As a result, they won. They played hard, they had a lot of guys really step up and play great and we did a lot of things that were out of character.
Q. Talk about getting Rasheed Wallace more involved in the offense.
Larry Brown: Well, he only played 22 minutes the first game and 25 in the second. We have to find ways to get him the ball more. He’s got to be more aggressive and he’s got to fight through this. He’s having a hard time dealing with a lot of things right now. That being said, we need him to be involved more, be more aggressive and we’ve got to recognize that we have to get him the ball. I looked at the film and I thought (Udonis) Haslem was sensational. He fronted him (Rasheed Wallace) on the post, his effort was great and I think from Rasheed’s standpoint, he’s got to fight through this. Nothing’s changed with him for six, seven years and we won a championship with him. He’s a big part of our team and we need him and I’m sure he’ll respond.
We didn’t match their energy, we didn’t play up to their level and they won the game. Game 2, Game 3 a lot of things seemed like we had a chance to win but they executed down the stretch, they made all the shots and we missed free throws. We had control over that and they got it done and we didn’t.

LINDSEY HUNTER
Q. Talk about being down 2-3.
Lindsey Hunter: We were in this position with New Jersey last year and we had to go to New Jersey to win a game and keep the series alive. Our most important thing now is that we’re home now and we have to get a win here.
Q. Talk about the possibility that Dwyane Wade won't play in Game 6.
Lindsey Hunter: We’re preparing as if he’s going to play and he’s at 100 percent. We’re not really worried about his status. We know that if he plays he’s going to be effective.”
Q. Talk about the possibility of a letdown.
Lindsey Hunter: If we have a letdown in this game, we don’t deserve to be here. There is no business for us to go out there and take anything for granted regardless of who is playing or who is not playing.

CHAUNCEY BILLUPS
Q. Now it’s now win one game or go home.
Chauncey Billups: Pretty much. That is where we are at. We have got to win one game, what we have to worry about is Game 6 because if we don’t take care of business, it’s over.
Q. Is the team’s inability to execute disappointing?
Chauncey Billups: That’s one (thing that is disappointing). Not being able to execute like we used to do. We are being impatient on our offensive end. That’s not really how we are. It’s just like that sometimes, you just got to fight through it.
Q. Talk about being in this situation before, and how much you can draw from past experiences.
Chauncey Billups: When you go through situations like this, you always learn from them. When you get back into that situation, you have to think about what you learned and you have to think about how to play and what to do, and I think we definitely learned a lot from that situation, that is not new to us.”
