Bobcats News | Aug. 20, 2005
The Charlotte Bobcats strengthened their backcourt on Friday with the re-signing of point guard Brevin Knight. The eight-year veteran was an integral part of last year's roster, guiding Charlotte through its expansion season.
"Re-signing Brevin was a priority for our team this offseason," said General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff. "His leadership and knowledge of our system makes him an invaluable piece of our building process. We are excited to have him back, and hopefully our younger players will continue to benefit from his presence."
Knight initially signed with the Bobcats on August 31, 2004, and enjoyed the best season of his eight-year NBA career, averaging 10.1 points, 9.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 66 games. He ranked second in the league in assists, and set the NBA’s top three single-game highs with a career-high 20 assists at Cleveland on January 11, 2005, 19 assists against Detroit on November 23, 2004, and 18 assists against New York on December 4, 2004.
The 5-10, 170-pound point guard also led the league in assists-per-turnover ratio (4.02) and ranked fifth in steals (1.98) and 26th in free throw percentage (.852).
Knight was drafted by Cleveland with the 16th overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft and has spent time with Atlanta, Memphis, Phoenix and Washington. He has career averages of 7.5 points, 6.5 assists and 2.6 steals in 467 NBA games.
