You underrate Battier's worth. Brilliant defender individually and team-wise, and he knocks down the open shot. They already have guys to create for the team, they already have a guy who can anchor the defense and block shots, and I'm expecting the ball-movement and passing to improve a whole hell of a lot with whatever new system Adelman brings in.

AK adds plenty of things in positive ways, but at this point, Battier just brings more of what the Rockets need.

Not to mention his attitude and leadership happen to be the exact opposite of what AK would bring to the team.

here is a similar thread from a few days ago. Seems pretty divided. The only thing Batt is better at is outside shooting. AK is a better perimeter and post defender, etc.

Nope I wouldn't make that trade, I would make a trade of Battier, Alston, future #1 for Artest

you are insane. You would rather have artest on your team than AK? AK is one of the few 5 tool players in the league and you would then have two of them (he and MeMac).

Artest would not be happy as the 3rd or 4th option on the rockets. Everybody who says ak jacks up too many shots, ask some pacer or kings fansa about Ron-rons' shot selection.

Yeah but I'd rather have a healthy crazy person, who can do all the things AK47 and Battier can do, and probably better at somethings, than an often injured AK47. Dont get me wrong he's a good player, just too injury prone for my liking

AK isn't a better perimeter defender than Battier. And while AK's length and gambles do result in a lot of positive things, Battier is the much smarter team defender. You also can't underestimate the attitudes of either player, which, as I mentioned before, appear to be polar opposites.

As far as Artest goes, I think it really depends on the situation. Both are extremely different players with extremely different skillsets. On defense, if you've already got a great interior defense that turn away and affect a lot of shots, take Artest, who's obviously the better shut-down defender. Your interior defense is weak and you've got no weak-side shotblocking at all, take AK, who'll always be trusted to be active and help off his own man on d. On offense, Artest is a guy who you'd want to have the ball in his hands a lot more than AK. Say you've got no bangers in the post, and while your bigmen are, well, big, they aren't exactly muscle that like to show off in the post. they're perimeter oriented. Artest works great there. In a Bonzi Wells type of situation, he can take whoever is guarding him downlow and just overpower that defender (or use his speed if they, for whatever reason, throw a PF on him). AK on the other hand is perfect for a team that has a lot of creators, so that he can use his finishing ability and his passing to find other openings. He's not a playmaker, but when he gets the ball in the right position (ie. when he's got some time to make a correct decision), he can find people. Great court vision, just not all that confident with the ball constantly in his hands.

On the Rockets or the Knicks, you take AK. On the Lakers or, say, the Hornets, you take Artest. Or at least, I would.

see, people who say this really havent been following AKs career. WHile stats arent everything, this is batts stats from last year (which are basically the same as his career avg over 6 years).
2006-07 Statistics
PPG 10.1
RPG 4.1
APG 2.1
SPG 1.0
BPG 0.7
FG% 0.446
FT% 0.779
3P% 0.421
MPG 36.4

And this is AKs from last year (which was about half of his career average (again 6 years) prior to that year)
2006-07 Statistics
PPG 8.3 (now 12.9 Career avg)
RPG 4.7 (now 6.2 career avg)
APG 2.9
SPG 1.1
BPG 2.1
FG% 0.471
FT% 0.728
3P% 0.213
MPG 29.3

So in less minutes, AK has surpassed Batt in all categories except ppg and 3pt%.

A lot of underrating of AK going on in this thread. But I will say that AK will probably be more unhappy in Houston than he is in Utah. He feels unimportant in Utah because Williams, Boozer, and Okur are the focus of the offense. How exactly would a team that already has Yao, Mac, Francis, and Wells offer him a better situation?
