Around the NBA

By Marshon Robinson
Nov 14, 2000

Team of The Week
Philadelphia - For the second week in a row, the 76ers continued to win games with excellent defense and solid play from its secondary guys like Eric Snow.  Best in the East?  Right now, you bet.

Other notables
Phoenix - Off to a great start in the crowded West, where every game will probably count come season's end.

Sacramento/Indiana - Bouncing back from bad starts with 4 game winning streaks.

Game of the Week - Cleveland vs Philadelphia, Wednesday. Most are going with Utah/San Antonio on Tuesday, but I think we'll learn more from this game.  It will give a good indication of whether or not the Cavs are legit.

Stinkers
Seattle - At this point they're behind the Clippers and don't appear to playing as hard.  This team needs to mesh quickly or they'll be very disappointed come May.

Golden State - Quickly proved me wrong after their fluke win against the Suns by dropping five straight.

Boston - Rick Pitino might as well just leave now.

Prime Timers
Stephon Marbury - NBA Player of the Week, averaging 34.7 points and 9 assists.

Jeff McInnis - It's rare that we get opportunities to highlight Clippers, but McInnis is a surprise, leading the young Clips in scoring and assists.

Eric Snow - took the Answer's slack and led the team as they continued their winning ways.

Shawn Marion - All-around player who is currently leading the Suns in scoring.

Pine Timers
Larry Hughes - He's got to be better than this, only 34% shooting

The Bucks - Lack of defense is adding up to another disappointing season.

X-Factors
Shawn Kemp - I guess with his salary he can't really be an X-Factor, but coming off the bench Kemp has been a solid addition to the Blazers, hitting baskets at key times.

C. Billups - Stepping up his play steadily, especially with Brandon going down.

The Top Ten
1. Utah - Best in the West? We'll know after Tues.
2. San Antonio - Need to show the intensity they have vs. the Lakers every night
3. Philadelphia - Still winning with D.
4. LA Lakers - Shaq's looking mortal lately.
5. Phoenix - Marion and Kidd lead the way.
6. Sacramento - praying that Webber is OK
7. Portland - Back on the right track.
8 - 10.  Pick your 3 Eastern Conference teams...
