![]() Karl Malone wanted the Utah Jazz to sign Ike Austin in the past. Ike was signed elsewhere, and proceeded to play horribly. But Malone still hasn't given up on Ike, and is once again pushing the Jazz to get their hands on him. Since Utah has all but given up on Greg Ostertag - as he has developed like a roll of film that was accidently dropped in the ocean - it's in their best interest to consider just about anyone. Olden Polynice has been very useful, but he's obviously just a short term solution. Austin currently makes $5 Million a year, so for the Wizards and Jazz would have to pull some tricks (and probably find a 3rd team to get in on the deal) to make a trade happen. Reminder. Isaiah Rider is a free agent. The Bulls want Texas' 7-foot center Chris Mihm to play alongside Elton Brand, and will do whatever it takes to get him (aside from trading Brand, of course). Mike Jarvis knows the Wizards are in an awful situation. The Hawks, who produced a season of horrible basketball, are lowering ticket prices next season. If only more teams took their lead. The Nets might want John Thompson as their next head coach. Or perhaps Isiah Thomas. Charles Oakley spoke out and said what everyone else has been thinking - that Butch Carter must go. Danny Ferry's 10 year deal with the Cavaliers is finally going to expire. The Knicks may have been eliminated by the Pacers, but at least they can rejoice in beating the Heat yet again. Should the Jazz trade Karl Malone? Last Tuesday, vs. the Blazers Glen Rice got credit for a field goal even though both of Shaq's hands were inside the basket to drive it home. Arvydas Sabonis was called for his 5th foul for simply standing fairly closer to O'Neal. Kobe Bryant drove into Rasheed Wallace, initiated a ton of contact, and somehow Wallace was called for the foul. On the next play, Bryant drove again, got fouled, and a moment after the whistle blew he took another step and then shot, and they counted it. The Blazers may whine a lot about calls, but sometimes they've got more than enough reasons to do so. Gary Payton and Jason Kidd, All-NBA First Team guards. Awesome. Payton and Kidd played together as kids in Oakland. Five years older than Jason, Payton helped turn Kidd from a good but weak - in body and mind - player to someone who truly understood how to kick some ass. And now, according to the experts, they're the two best guards in the world. Scottie Pippen really doesn't want to lose to Phil Jackson. ____________ Sign up for a free web-based email
