Bobcats sign Alan Anderson, Antonio Meeking

The Charlotte Bobcats have signed free agent guard/forward
Alan Anderson and forward Antonio Meeking, it was announced today by
Bobcats General Manager & Head Coach Bernie Bickerstaff.
“We feel we have added two quality players who have a chance to contribute
to our team on both ends of the court," said Bickerstaff. “Our coaching
staff has been impressed all summer with their work ethic and commitment to
effort.”
Anderson, a 6-6, 220-pound guard averaged 9.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.4
assists in four seasons at Michigan State (2001-05). He ranks third
all-time for career free throw percentage (.831), fifth in free throws made
(379) and ninth in games started (110). He also ranks 22nd in points
(1,195).
Last season he averaged 13.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 33
starts as a senior and led the Spartans to the 2005 NCAA Tournament Final
Four, where they fell to eventual champion North Carolina.
Anderson was not selected in the 2005 NBA Draft in June, but participated
with the Bobcats entry in the 2005 Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue in Utah. In
six games, he averaged 7.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 20.2 minutes,
including his summer league high 16 points against Atlanta on July 22.
Meeking, a 6-8, 245-pound forward, spent the last two seasons in the NBA
Development League with Asheville (now relocated to Tulsa) and averaged
13.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in 69 D-League games and back-to-back D-League
Championships. Last season, his best in the league, he averaged 19.4
points and 7.7 rebounds while connecting on .510 from the field.
In six games with the Bobcats summer league team in Utah, he averaged 9.7
points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in 20.7 minutes. He reached
double-figures three times, scoring 15 points against Dallas, 14 points
against Seattle and 12 points against Utah.
A former standout at Louisiana Tech, Meeking was a four-year starter for
the Bulldogs, completing his college career as the 11th all-time leading
scorer in school history with 1,541 points. Undrafted in the 2003 NBA
Draft, Meeking had brief stints in the United States Basketball League
(USBL) and overseas with KK Hemofarm-Vrsac in Serbia/Montenegro.
