Raptors sign Loren Woods
Toronto Raptors News / Aug 18, 2004
The Toronto Raptors announced Wednesday they have signed free-agent centre Loren Woods. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Woods was selected off the Miami Heat roster by the Charlotte Bobcats in the recent expansion draft. Because he was a restricted free agent at the end of the 2003-04 season, Woods was automatically declared an unrestricted free agent July 1 under expansion draft rules.
Woods, 7-foot-1, 255 pounds, averaged 10.0 points and 9.4 rebounds in five games for Charlotte at the Minnesota Summer League in July. He averaged 3.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 38 games with the Heat last season after spending the previous two campaigns with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 26-year-old scored a season-high 12 points November 25 versus New Orleans and had nine rebounds December 5 versus Philadelphia.
Woods was drafted in the second round, 46th overall, by Minnesota in the 2001 NBA Draft. He has career averages of 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds in 136 games.
The St. Louis, Missouri native played two seasons at Wake Forest (1996-98) and two seasons at Arizona (1999-2001), averaging 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 107 games. He was named honourable mention All-America by the Associated Press as a senior and junior with the Wildcats.
