Only the West this post-season?
Fan Editorial by Tim Thomas
There only conference in sports that can boast the
claim that 79% of their teams have .500 or better
records is the NBA's western conference.
As of Dececember 14 records, 11 of the 14 teams in the Wild Western
Conference has records of .500 or better.
Who would have thought that a month and a half
into the season, the Denver Nuggets would be a half
game behind first at 14-9, and Memphis would be only a
game behind at 13-9? The last place team in the
division is the surprising Utah Jazz at 12-10, and they're playing without
John Stockton and Karl Malone.
This just shows the depth of the teams in the
Western conference, comprised of veteran teams such
as the Lakers, Kings, Spurs, Mavs, and Wolves, along with the
young up-and-coming teams like Memphis, Golden State,
and Denver. If these teams were in the eastern
conference, they would be battling for the top seeds.
Maybe the NBA should just allow all the teams in
the western conference to make the playoffs until Eastern conference general managers figure out how to run their teams properly.
