Warriors to honor 1974-75 championship squad
Golden State Warriors / Mar. 23, 2005
The Golden State Warriors announced today that the team will honor the Warriors' 1974-75 NBA Championship squad on Monday, March 28 versus the New York Knicks as part of a Hardwood Classics Monday, presented by Verizon Wireless (7:30 p.m. tip-off). Throughout the evening, special in-game elements including a ceremonial tip-off, video presentations and a halftime celebration featuring the entire team will help commemorate the 30th Anniversary of their remarkable achievements.
Nearly every living member of the championship team will be on hand for the festivities, including Rick Barry, Butch Beard, Steve Bracey, Bill Bridges, Charles Dudley, Charles Johnson, George Johnson, Frank Kendrick, Jeff Mullins and Jamaal Wilkes. Alvin Attles, the head coach of the 1974-75 team and current Warriors Vice President and Assistant General Manager, will also be part of the celebration.
The Warriors will also honor Derrek Dickey and Phil Smith, two integral members of the championship team who both passed away in the summer of 2002. Additionally, 50 of the first 5,000 fans in attendance will win an authentic Dickey or Smith jersey from Mitchell & Ness as part of the Warriors' Hardwood Classics Monday promotion.
The current Warriors squad will once again be wearing the popular blue uniforms from the 1966-67 season, featuring "The City" logo on the front and a cable car design on the back. As part of the retro entertainment at this game, 1970's rap pioneers "The Sugar Hill Gang" will provide special pre-game and halftime performances. Special retro ticket prices are also featured for this Hardwood Classics Monday game, as select upper level seats ($32 and $22) are available at half price.
