Clippers sign Von WaferThe Los Angeles Clippers today signed guard Von Wafer of the Colorado 14ers of the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract, it was announced by Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor.

Currently the third leading scorer in the NBA Development League, Wafer is averaging 20.5 points in 32 games with Colorado. The former Florida State standout is ranked 23rd in the league, averaging 3.3 assists per game.

The 6-5, 210 pound guard was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round (39th overall selection) of the 2005 NBA Draft. Wafer appeared in 16 games with the Lakers during the 2005-06 season, averaging 1.3 points per game. Wafer scored a career-high 9 points against Utah on Jan. 3, 2006. Wafer was waived by the Lakers on Oct. 26, 2006.

A star in his two seasons at Florida State, Wafer ranks 11th all-time in Seminoles history in career three-point field goals made and 12th all-time in three-point percentage. Wafer led Florida State in scoring (12.5 ppg) during his sophomore year. Prior to attending Florida State, he was named a McDonald’s High School All-American after a stellar high school career.

InsideHoops.com Editor Says: Von Wafer is one of the coolest names ever. Therefore, I hope he sticks in the league. If he doesn't, maybe I'll change my name to his.
