NBA Uniforms: New Alternates
NBA News | Nov. 22, 2005
The Detroit Pistons will unveil second road
uniforms during their home game against the Denver Nuggets tomorrow night
tipping off a week where second road uniforms will be unveiled by the
Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Nuggets as well. The four teams
will reveal their second road looks to fans during home games this week.
This marks the first time in franchise history the Celtics, Cavaliers and
Nuggets will have second road uniforms.
The Pistons second road jersey will be unveiled as "Red Returns.” The
uniform, which is red with blue and white accents, completes the set of
current Pistons uniforms which are white at home and blue on the road.
"PISTONS" is emblazoned across the chest of the uniforms in white letters
and blue and white stripes run down the sides. The shorts are also red and
feature blue and white stripes down the sides of the legs. The team’s new
secondary logo, a "P" with a "D" inserted inside the “P”, unveiled over the
summer, is stitched onto the front of the left leg.
Fans can see the Celtics uniforms during the team’s home game against the
Charlotte Bobcats on November 25. The uniforms were inspired by the Celtics
uniforms of the past and pay tribute to the team’s long and storied
history. The new design incorporates the color black, adding a modern
touch, along with the team’s signature green. The word “BOSTON” appears on
the front of the jersey in black honoring the original wordmark of the
team’s road uniforms prior the 1970’s. The shorts include a
triangle-shaped insert on the side with a shamrock in the center – exactly
as it appeared in the shorts worn from 1946-48.
Nuggets fans will see their team’s second road uniforms on November 25 at
home against the Los Angeles Clippers. A new script "Nuggets" is featured
on the front of the jersey. The navy colored uniform uses the existing home
and road uniform silhouette as a base, still featuring the "mountain peak"
side insert. A twist on the silhouette is an athletic navy-yellow-navy
stripe that splits the insert. The team’s new secondary logo, being
unveiled in conjunction with the uniform, features crossing pick axes, a
mountain peak and a ball and provides an iconic representation of the team.
The logo is featured on the centerback neck of the jersey and sides of the
short.
The Cavaliers will show off their second road uniforms at the November 26
home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The primary color is navy
blue and creates a distinct new look for the team. The front of the jersey
is wordmarked with “Cavaliers” in white with a gold outline. The jersey
design takes historical inspiration from the team’s 1970’s uniforms for the
trim and braid, which include alternating panels of navy, wine and gold.
The November 26 game will air live on NBATV.
