The Golden State Warriors have acquired center/forward Dale Davis and guard Dan Dickau from the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for guard Nick Van Exel, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today.

"We are happy to acquire two players who fit into our team as presently constructed," said Mullin. "As we looked at our roster, it was evident that we needed another frontcourt player and one that provides the intangibles that we are looking for; Dale Davis accomplishes that goal. Additionally, there is always a need for young players such as Dan Dickau, who can shoot, run a team and fulfill a role."

A 13-year NBA veteran who has appeared in the playoffs 11 times, Davis has averaged 8.7 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.21 blocks, while shooting 50.9% from the field in 959 regular season games. Additionally, he has appeared in 108 career playoff contests, averaging 7.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 1.21 blocked shots. In 76 games this past season (37 starts), Davis averaged 4.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 22.1 minutes per contest.

Davis, 35, was originally drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 13th selection in the 1991 NBA Draft and spent the first nine years of his career with the Pacers. While in Indiana, he advanced to the playoffs in eight-of-nine seasons, including five trips to the Eastern Conference Finals and an appearance in the 2000 NBA Finals. That trip to The Finals capped one of Davis' finest professional seasons, in which he averaged 10.0 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.27 blocks and was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star squad. In four seasons since being traded to the Trail Blazers, the Toccoa, Georgia, native has averaged 7.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 27.4 minutes in 313 contests. Overall for his career, the 6'11'' Davis has shot better than 50.0% from the field in 11-of-13 seasons.

Dickau, 25, has appeared in 93 NBA games over two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks and Portland, averaging 3.0 points and 1.3 assists in 8.7 minutes per contest. Originally drafted by the Sacramento Kings with the 28th selection in the 2002 NBA Draft, Dickau's draft rights were traded by Sacramento to Atlanta for a future first round draft choice on draft night (June 26, 2002). After appearing in 73 games over one-plus seasons with the Hawks, which included a career-high 16-point effort versus the Warriors on February 11, 2003, the 6'0'' Gonzaga product was traded to Portland along with Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff in exchange for Rasheed Wallace and Wesley Person on February 9, 2004.

Van Exel, an 11-year NBA veteran, played one season for Golden State, averaging 12.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 32.2 minutes over 39 games (29 starts). Acquired from Dallas as part of a nine-player trade on August 18, 2003, Van Exel missed 41 games overall in 2003-04 due to injury. The 32-year-old guard missed the first three regular season contests after undergoing arthroscopic left knee surgery on October 20, while also logging a pair of stints on the injured list with left knee inflammation - including a stretch that covered the final 24 games of the season. Among NBA leaders in 2003-04, he ranked 24th in assists-to-turnover ratio (2.64). He also connected on the 1,361st three-pointer of his career on January 7 at Dallas to move past Dan Majerle (1,360) for fifth place on NBA's all-time three-point list.
