Washington Wizards Blog: Wizards beat Pistons
Wizards Basketball Game, Jan. 30, 2007

Washington 104, Detroit 99 -- The AP reports: Even a knee injury to Antawn Jamison couldn't mask the significance of a victory over the Detroit Pistons, a Washington Wizards win so big that even coach Eddie Jordan threw trash-talking caution to the wind -- at least for a second. "That team is a very good team. Are we done with them?" Jordan asked. Yes, coach, the Wizards and Pistons won't meet again in the regular season. "So," Jordan said, "we kicked their butts." Gilbert Arenas had 36 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds in Tuesday night's 104-99 victory that kept the Wizards atop the Eastern Conference and gave the teams a 2-2 split in the season series, leveling the first tiebreaker should they finish the regular season with the same record. Washington beat Detroit twice in five days, having won 99-96 on the road last week... Chauncey Billups scored 24 points, Prince had 19 points, and Richard Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace finished with 15 apiece for the Pistons.

Washington Wizards Blog: Gilbert player of week again
Wizards Notes, Jan. 8, 2007

You cannot stop Gilbert Arenas, and at this point you can't even hope to contain him:

The NBA announced today that Wizards Guard Gilbert Arenas was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, January 1st through Sunday, January 7th, 2007. This marks the third time this season and the seventh time in his career that Arenas has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Arenas, the Eastern Conference Player of the Month in December, has now won Player of the Week honors in three of the last five weeks.

“This was an exciting week for our team,” said Arenas. “We had the big win against Milwaukee, and came from behind against the Clippers at home for two important wins. My teammates had a great week, especially Caron and Antawn, so I will certainly share this award with them.”

“Gilbert continued his outstanding play and had another terrific week,” said Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld. “Overall, we have really come together as a team and have put together an impressive record over the past month.”

Washington Wizards Blog: Quotes
Jan. 4, 2007

Eddie Jordan on being named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month: “It was a complete team effort. We had a very good month, which was highlighted by our West Coast swing. We competed successfully against some of the better teams in the NBA, and had some outstanding individual performances from our guys.”

Jordan on Saturday’s game against Milwaukee: “I thought we played well for three quarters then we succumbed to their offensive onslaught a little bit. They just did a good job on both ends of the floor. They had a good game plan.”

Gilbert Arenas on being named Eastern Conference Player of the Month: “I appreciate the honor from the NBA. December was an outstanding month for our team. We played extremely well and won some big road games. We were able to move into first place and create some excitement and momentum heading into the New Year.”

Antawn Jamison on guarding against complacency: “It has been awhile since this organization has been in this type of situation (tied for first place in the division) this late in the season, and for us, we want to see if we can improve on that. This team is not at all getting relaxed or taking comforts. There are still a lot of things we set out to prove.”
