Cleveland Cavaliers Blog: Cavs beat Warriors
Cavs Basketball, Jan. 30, 2007
Cleveland 124, Golden State 97 -- The AP reports: LeBron James rested his smarting toe, and Sasha Pavlovic made sure the Cleveland Cavaliers didn't stub theirs. Pavlovic scored a career-high 24 points filling in for his injured teammate and the Cavaliers rolled without their superstar, pounding the Golden State Warriors 124-97 on Tuesday night. James missed his second game in a less than a week with a sprained right big toe, an injury that isn't going to improve without rest. Cleveland's medical staff advised James to take the night off and there's a chance he could miss more games... Donyell Marshall added 15 points, Zydrunas Ilgauskas 14 with 10 rebounds and Cleveland snapped a three-game losing streak at home while getting eight players in double figures for the first time since April 22, 1994... Baron Davis scored 21 points to lead the Warriors, who opened a six-game trip with one they'd like to forget.
Cleveland Cavaliers Blog: Cavs lose to Sonics
Cavs Basketball Game, Jan. 17, 2007
Yesterday the Cavs lost to the Sonics 101-96. Cleveland started the usual -- Eric Snow, Larry Hughes, LeBron James, Drew Gooden and Zydrunas Ilgauskas. LeBron took 21 shots for 30 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Big Z stepped up with 24 points and 11 boards. Gooden was OK. Everyone was was pretty weak. Meanwhile the Sonics started Earl Watson, Ray Allen, Mickael Gelabale, Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison, and got key bench minutes from Damien Wilkins and Luke Ridnour, and also Andre Brown and Johan Petro. Ray Allen needed 21 shots for his 22 points but he also dished 11 assists. Wilcox and Collison hit the boards hard. Seattle got more across-the-board scoring. Both teams were awful from outside.
Cleveland Cavaliers Blog: Work for Quicken
Cavs Notes, Jan. 8, 2007
This is press release material, but for all you Cavs fans that enjoy supporting the company that tries to make your Cavs better, here you go:
Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest online retail lender, has been ranked in the “Top 20” on FORTUNE Magazine’s list of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” list for the fourth consecutive year. Quicken Loans, which employs 175 people at its Cleveland Internet Home Lending Center, is ranked #9 on the list of medium-sized companies, #17 overall, and also was cited on a list of companies with the “most unusual perks.”
Of the 1,500 companies that requested to be considered, 446 companies were invited to participate in the process this year. "The 100 Best Companies to Work For" list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company's employees.
Two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey which goes to a minimum of 400 randomly selected employees. The survey asks about attitudes towards management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the organization. The remainder of the score is based on an evaluation of each company's demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture.
Cleveland Cavaliers Blog: Team Review
By InsideHoops.com, Jan. 1, 2007
The Cav are having a solid season, with a 17-12 record. They haven't stood out as much as Cavs fans hoped, and that's because the individual players on this team haven't stepped up. LeBron James, aka King James, one of the top few superstars in all of basketball, is absolutely amazing, but has taken a very tiny step back in terms of total dominance. He's still top 3 or at worst top 5 in the entire league, though.
The problem is LeBron's supporting cast has been weak. Larry Hughes is good but hasn't lived up to Cleveland hopes that he'll be Scottie Pippen to LeBron's Michael Jordan. Zydrunas Ilgauskas, though still healthy, which is nice, has dropped off a bit. Damon Jones has actually been good. And Drew Gooden has been solid.
The team needs to upgrade a lot of positions, starting at the point. Eric Snow defends well but is one of the worst starting offensive point guards in the entire league, in years.
The Cavs will make the playoffs, and should go a round or two, but to go further and be worthy of being called championship contenders, a few of these guys have to step up. A trade may be needed.
We'll be updating Cleveland Cavaliers news and this Cavaliers blog regularly all season.
