Raptors sign Rod Strickland

The Toronto Raptors announced Friday that they have signed free-agent guard Rod Strickland for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In a related move, the Raptors waived guard Jannero Pargo.
Strickland, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, is in his 16th season in the NBA. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.0 assists and 19.9 minutes in 46 games with Orlando this season. He scored in double figures 14 times with a season-high 15 points February 6 at New Jersey. He paced the Magic in assists on 15 occasions, including a season-best 12 on December 19 versus Golden State. Strickland was waived by the Magic on March 1 and therefore is eligible for postseason play.
Strickland has played in 1,063 regular-season games with New York, San Antonio, Portland, Washington, Miami, Minnesota and Orlando. He owns a career average of 13.5 points, 7.4 assists and 31.2 minutes. He ranks seventh all-time in NBA annals, and third among active players (Mark Jackson, Gary Payton), with 7,889 assists. Strickland led the NBA in assists during the 1997-98 season at 10.5 a game.
Strickland has appeared in 52 playoff games, averaging 13.4 points, 7.5 assists and 30.7 minutes. He averaged 20-plus points a game in three playoff seasons (1994-96) with a high of 23.5 in 1994. He averaged a career playoff-best 12.3 assists in 1995.
Pargo was signed as a free agent February 24. He averaged 3.6 points, 1.3 assists and 14.2 minutes in five games with the Raptors.
