InsideHoops.com NBA News
The Chicago Bulls today waived veteran guard Rick Brunson. Simultaneously, the club signed free agent guard Jannero Pargo to a 10-day contract and forward Paul Shirley to his second 10-day contract. Pargo will be in uniform tomorrow night when the Bulls take on the Cleveland Cavaliers at Gund Arena.
“Rick Brunson has been great for our organization this season,” said Bulls Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson. “He has done everything we could have asked of him and he is a true professional. It is unfortunate for this team that we had to let him go.”
Brunson appeared in 40 games this season with Chicago and Toronto. The 6-4, 190-pounder played in 37 games with the Bulls after joining the club on Dec. 16, 2003, in exchange for guard Roger Mason, Jr. A veteran of 6 years, Brunson has averaged 3.0 ppg, 2.1 apg and 10.3 mpg, while shooting .381 from the floor, including .478 from 3-point range.
A 6-1, 175-pound guard, Pargo has averaged 1.8 ppg and 1.3 apg in 18 appearances this season with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors. After going undrafted in NBA Draft 2003, he spent the entire 2002-03 season with the Lakers and averaged 2.5 ppg, 1.1 rpg and 1.1 apg in 10.1 mpg in 34 appearances.
Shirley has averaged 1.5 ppg, 1.5 rpg and 9.3 mpg in 4 appearances since signing his first 10-day contract on Mar. 4, 2004.
Chicago’s roster now stands at 15.
