Miami HEAT President and Head Coach Pat Riley announced today that the team has officially added swingman Lamar Odom to the HEAT roster. Under NBA rules, the Los Angeles Clippers had 15 days to match the HEAT’s offer sheet and had until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday night to decide whether to re-sign their former first-round NBA Draft pick. The HEAT extended the offer sheet on August 11th.

Odom averaged 14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 34.1 minutes in 48 games last season and was the only Clipper to rank in the top three on the team in points, rebounds and assists. In 230 career games, all with the Clippers, Odom has averaged 15.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.15 blocks, 1.00 steals and 36.0 minutes while shooting 44.4 percent (1349-3041) from the floor, 31.3 percent (197-630) from three-point range and 70.9 percent (761-1074) from the foul line.

He holds the franchise record for career triple-doubles (seven) and most triple-doubles in a season with three during the 2000-01 season. Odom also holds franchise rookie records with free-throws made in a game (14), free-throws made in a single-season (302) and minutes played in a single-season (2,767). Also during the 2000-01 year, Odom held the distinct honor as the only player in the NBA to lead his team in points (1,304), rebounds (592), field goals made (481), field goals attempted (1,046), free-throws made (262), free-throws attempted (386) and minutes per game (37.3).

During his rookie season, Odom averaged 16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.3 blocks and 36.4 minutes per game with 70 starts. In his NBA debut versus Seattle on November 2, 1999, Odom scored 30 points and pulled down 12 rebounds with three assists, two steals and two blocked shots in 44 minutes of action. He was named NBA Rookie of the Month in November and NBA co-Rookie of the Month in December. Odom tied for fourth place in the NBA with three triple-doubles for the season with his first coming at Houston on December 30 (10 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists). His second and third triple-doubles came within the same week of each other. Versus the then Charlotte Hornets on March 10, 2000, Odom recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists while at Sacramento on March 15, 2000, he scored 21 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Honored for his stellar play as a rookie, Odom was selected to participate in the NBA Schick Rookie All-Star Challenge and was named to the NBA All Rookie First-Team.

Selected by the Clippers in the first round (fourth overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft, Odom played just one collegiate season at the University of Rhode Island. He was named to the First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference and Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year after averaging 17.6 points, 9.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 32 games. He was also named Atlantic 10 Tournament Most Valuable Player when his game winning, buzzer-beating three-pointer over Temple University secured the Atlantic 10 Championship for Rhode Island. More post-season awards followed that year including his honorable mention All-American selection by the Associated Press as well as the NABC District I All-American Team, First Team All ECAC and ECAC Rookie of the Year.
