The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced that it has postponed the international preseason game between the Utah Jazz and the CSKA-Moscow team, scheduled for Oct. 8, 2004, due to the unstable situation in Russia threatening security of the game. The league will work together with the CSKA club to reschedule the game at a date to be determined.
“We are saddened that it will not be possible for the Jazz to play CSKA Moscow next month,” said NBA Commissioner David Stern. “We have been impressed with the professionalism of CSKA President Alexander Gomelsky, CEO Sergey Kushchenko and the entire CSKA organization both on and off the court and are confident that the game would have been a great success.
“Most importantly, I would like to express my deepest condolences for what the Russian people have endured in recent weeks. Our thoughts remain with them,” said Stern.
The 2004 NBA preseason will now begin on October 10 with two games on the schedule. The preseason schedule includes the 2004 NBA China Games, featuring the Houston Rockets and Sacramento Kings, scheduled for October 14 and 17 in Shanghai and Beijing, China.
