Bucks sign Jelani McCoy
Milwaukee Bucks News / Sept 23, 2004
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed free agent center Jelani McCoy to a contract, General Manager Larry Harris announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“At 6-10 and 245 lbs., Jelani is a veteran center who adds to our frontcourt depth,” said Harris. “We look forward to him competing with our other ‘bigs’ when camp opens on October 5th.”
Originally drafted by Seattle in the second round of the 1998 NBA Draft, McCoy played three seasons with the SuperSonics where he shot 57.2 percent from the field in 154 games. Prior to the 2001-02 season, he signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers and appeared in 21 games for the World Champions.
“Jelani is a strong interior player who has shown he can play in the NBA,” said Head Coach Terry Porter. “Size is a commodity in our business, and we think we’ve added someone who can help us on the inside.”
McCoy, 26, enjoyed his best statistical season with Toronto in 2002-03 when he tallied 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest in 67 games. He played in two games with Cleveland last season before being waived by the Cavaliers on November 6.
For his career, McCoy has averaged 4.8 points and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 53.8 percent from the field over 244 games.
