Chicago Bulls sign Malik Allen
Bulls News | Sept. 2, 2005
The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has signed free agent forward Malik Allen to a contract. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“We're very pleased to add Malik to our team. He's a big man who can make perimeter shots, which was an area we wanted to address this summer,” said Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations John Paxson. “He’s played in a Miami system where hard work and accountability are required, which is what we are striving for here with the Bulls. We feel Malik will help our team.”
In four NBA seasons, Allen has played in 173 career games during stops in Miami and Charlotte and has averaged 7.0 ppg and 3.9 rpg in 20.9 mpg, while shooting .431 from the field and .813 from the free throw line. Last season the 6-10, 250-pound forward appeared in a total of 36 games (14 with the Heat and 22 with the Bobcats) and averaged 5.4 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 14.4 mpg and shot .475 from the floor and .929 on free throws.
InsideHoops.com Editor's View: The Bulls just re-signed Tyson Chandler for big money. They expect him to expand his game greatly in the next season or two. Malik Allen is bench depth behind him.
