Lenny Cooke explodes in first overseas game
Breaking News by InsideHoops.com
INITIAL EXCLUSIVE REPORT FROM OCTOBER 1, 2003
InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner reports that New
York prep hoops star Lenny Cooke has signed an offer sheet with PureFoods, a professional
team in the PBA, of the Philippines.
In the ten-team Samsung-PBA league, there are two groups,
five teams per group, and PureFoods is currently 1-5 and in fifth and last place
in their group.
InsideHoops.com reports that Cooke is in Japan today,
and about to fly to the Philippines. He will take a physical, and once he passes
it, unless a problem arises out of nowhere the offer sheet will become a contract.
Once the contract is official, his first game will be this Saturday.
The PBA season ends December 15, at which point Cooke will probably fly back to
the United States with plans to play in the CBA.
Last season Cooke played for the Brooklyn Kings of the USBL, where he won the
league's Rookie of the Year award.
FOLLOWUP REPORT FROM 7PM ET, OCTOBER 3, 2003
InsideHoops.com reports that Lenny Cooke has played his
first game for PureFoods in the Philippines PBA league, scoring 49 points and
grabbing 17 rebounds against FedEx. However, Cooke got almost no support from
his teammates and as a result, FexEx won the game by a final score of 121-105.
