Mavericks trade anthony johnson to hawksThe Atlanta Hawks today acquired guard Anthony Johnson from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for the Hawks’ 2007 second-round draft pick, according to Hawks Executive Vice President/ General Manager Billy Knight.

“We’re happy to be able to bring Anthony Johnson back to Atlanta,” Knight said. “He provides us with another veteran presence, and brings a great deal of regular season and postseason experience to our club.”

“We would like to thank Anthony for his contributions this season. He’s been a pleasure to be around and is a first class professional. This move gives us flexibility and a valuable pick in a very deep draft,” said General Manager/President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson.

Entering his third stint with the Hawks, Johnson has played in 40 games this season with the Mavericks, averaging 3.8 ppg, 2.0 apg and 1.2 rpg in 14.1 mpg (.411 FG%, .724 FT%).

Last season with the Pacers, he put in a career-best 9.2 ppg, 4.3 apg and 2.2 rpg over 75 games (53 starting assignments). In last year’s playoffs, Johnson poured in a career-high 40 points against New Jersey (5/4/06), and started all six games in the series, averaging 20.0 ppg.

The College of Charleston product has appeared in 112 games as a Hawk (between 1998-2000, and again during the 2000-01 campaign), recording 3.6 ppg, 1.8 apg and 1.2 rpg (.383 FG%, .715 FT%).

Having also logged time with Sacramento, Orlando, Cleveland, New Jersey and Indiana, Johnson was originally selected in the second round (40th overall) of the 1997 NBA Draft by the Kings. He has career numbers of 5.6 ppg, 2.8 apg, 1.7 rpg and 0.7 spg in 586 regular season games (168 starts), and has seen action in 80 postseason contests.

Anthony Mark Johnson was born October 2, 1974 in Charleston, SC.
