Nets name Lawrence Frank interim head coach
Frank Replaces former coach Byron Scott
The New Jersey Nets have named Lawrence Frank interim head coach, Nets President/General Manager Rod Thorn announced today. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not released. Frank replaces Byron Scott, who took over the team January 27, 2000.
“We appreciate all of the work, effort, sacrifice and success that Byron has produced over the past three and a half seasons,” said Thorn. “ I felt that at this time it is necessary to take the team in a different direction, and I am confident Lawrence will be an outstanding leader for our team.”
Frank joined Scott’s coaching staff during the 2000-01 season and was in his fourth season as a Nets assistant coach. A native of Teaneck, New Jersey, Frank spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Vancouver Grizzlies. Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Frank served as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee for three seasons.
Scott compiled a regular season mark of 149-139, making him the winningest head coach in Nets history. He also compiled a NBA playoff record of 25-15, which included consecutive Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference titles in 2002 and 2003.
