Default Removing Guaranteed Contracts would make the NBA better

Do you agree with the above statement?

I can see no downsides to that happening.

You'd see another lockout like 99.

Then some guy will setup a league with guaranteed contracts, and a lot of players will be moving there, splitting talent.

Assist numbers by anyone not playing PG would plummet. Too much one on one basketball would ruin the game.

Players Union would never let it happen unless they got crazy signing bonuses which the Owners would probably not want anyways.

I dont believe so b/c the GMs would know that team basketball wins games and would cut players who were selfish.

The player's union would never agree to this in a million years. What they might agree to is this:

- increase the salary cap
- reduce the maximum length of a contract to 5, maybe even 4 years. Six and seven year guaranteed contracts are ridiculous.

Guaranteed contracts should be upto 3yrs only
Team can pay a certain % to release the player after 3yrs
Reduce the max salary. Maybe to around 10-15m. Then limit the regular season to around 60+ games.

This will help reduce injuries come playoff time, give the players a chance to rest and play for their country and have some more time with their family

You cant remove it completely otherwise no stability would be in the NBA. Teams would never be the same, no chemistry would ever be built. I think it should be shortened, but there must be guaranteed years on them.

contracts don't have to be guaranteed in the NBA...its just that the agents always get their way...there is not stipulation that says contracts must be guaranteed throughout their term
