    Default Russell Westbrook-Biggest Draft Bust

Undersized SG slasher who will spend the early part of his career trying to be molded into a PG and will struggle because he doesn't possess the instincts and vision to be a successful NBA PG.

You're talking about a 3* prospect out of HS who even in HS was an undersized slashing SG.

Westbrook is a slashing Monta Ellis type of SG but Monta Ellis has a track record of being a big time scorer who can create his own shot but Russell on the other hand never scored more than 22 Pts since the end of his HS career.

Westbrook is not comparable with Randy Foye another undersized SG who was attempted to be molded into a PG because Randy Foye is a stronger and more athletic 2 who enjoys to draw contact but can shoot from the outside and create his own shot.

Westbrook has emerged as a Top 10 pick although he was considered a player who could've gone between 16-25 just 6 weeks ago and him possibly going to New York at #6 or anywhere in the lottery will draw a microscope to his progression.

Russell unlike the other Guards in this draft class doesn't have something he's so good at that it can keep him employed in the NBA,his defense is good sometimes but it's been overlooked that Ben Howland teaches his players great zone defense and Russell is potentially a product of that defensive scheme.

Russell has quick hands and can get a steal or two but how he'll be able to fair in a man to man defense against much stronger PG's such as Baron Davis,Deron Williams,Jason Kidd,Chauncey, etc on the defensive end is in doubt.

I'm sorry but Russell Westbrook will be the 1st player from this draft class who will be out of the league.

He won't be the 1st player out of the league because he can defend. If you can defend, even if you can do nothing else, you'll have a spot somewhere.

Who do you think he's capable of defending?

They're going to be playing this guy at PG and I just don't see what players he'd match up against favorably playing man to man defense other than guarding an undersized chucker like Ben Gordon.

If you're expecting him to play sg he'll have trouble. But having him as a 6th man/combo guard off the bench in the future he'll be able to match up with most guys. It'll limit the amount of time he has to spend at the 1. If that's the case, then he shouldn't be in the lottery, but who knows

    well researched story

have you seen more that 2-3 ucla games? i just want to know before really bothering to tell you what i think about your "opinion" on westbrook is

you could have been right about saying dont expect huge stats from him,he may be an 11-5 guy this season- ive said the whole time if its just stats mayo and bayless are way better this season- but to think hes a total bust type is so overboard that you make yourself look stupid- do you really think you are that much smarter than the sonics guys and dantoni& walsh

for westbrook i feel bad for him that he is going to have to go to oklahoma- those dirty rat owners ought to be shot-

and even for the sonics- i really think that they should have taken the #2 scorer they will need in bayless- now they are gambling on aquiring that at c? pf? teams seem to be only able to afford one defensive specialist in its linup- isnt that greens main role- are you putting to much on green and wilcox to score? no they arent #2 scorers they cant do it- so you are putting too much scoring pressure on durant

i think i might be the biggest westbrook fan around- and maybe it was just me not wanting him to have to go to oklahoma in thinking that the sonics should have went bayless- because i do believe westbrook is a future star- i have watch every ucla game he has played on tv and seen him in person twice- i have never liked a player ive seen's attitude and the way he plays more than westbrook- there is something special about this kid

i dreamed of westbrook somehow to denver- and now seattle? and to add insult to injury portland gets bayless- horrible horrible night for a nugget fan- our starting pg is still anthony carter and allen-hopefully not untradeable-iverson is also still around

Wow i agree with that other poster.

People haven't even see the guy play and they label him a bust because of what they read on a website and his height. If you didn't know how Iverson played and just looked at his height and weight you would label him a buss also, wouldn't you?

This kid goes to the rim hard and can finish,Good Midrange,Ok handle, can create his own shot, good size for a Pg wants he learns a little bit and he can play defense. Vertical:Nearly 37 at a the height of 6'3 and a 6'7 wingspan.

In a fast break system with Durant,Green and Wilcox he can score and create. He can create turnovers on the defensive end to start up the break. Some of you should watch this guy play before you label him a bust.

I am a big fan of him and want him to succeed in the NBA.

the kid can play, he's going to be nice for Seattle. He's going to work on his jumpshot and he will be fine. He has to get his handles a little better too but he plays defense and is an athletic freak

I've seen this kid quite a bit.

    Positives:
Explosive in getting to the hoop
    Highly competitive
    Smart player
    Great work ethic
    Phenomenal jumper with 1 leg
Strong for a guy his size(under 200 pounds)
    Great 1 on 1 defender
    Good anticipation skills
    Long
    Athletic
    Good finishing skills

    Negatives:
    Average at best ball handling
Average body control(This might have a bit to do with the fact that he grew 5 inches 3 years ago)
Not always under control(body too fast for his mind?)
    Below average pull up jumper
    Average jumps shot
Doesn't always think fast enough, which leads to turnovers in the lane
Doesn't always locate bigs in the lane(ends up getting more shots blocked than he should)

    Summary:
Will be a great on ball defender at the next level no question
Will see marked improvement in his offensive game early in his career
Will never be a great offensive player
Will be a key role player on a championship team
    Will be a great teammate
Barring injury will have a fine career, and a top 10 PG in his prime.

    Great bump.

Shows everyone how clueless each of us is before the NBA Draft and the season.

Russell has been better than I expected he would be when I typed that up on Draft day.

He still is comparable to Monta Ellis in the way they get up and down the court and attack the rim and he still is not a capable NBA PG averaging 5 Assists to 3.3 Turnovers.

He still has no range outside of 18 feet but will still shoot it anyways.

He's proved so many of us wrong.
Shouldnt have declared him bust before season even started but-not only is he not a bust, but he is a great ROY candidate this year.
This could be the closest ROY race in quite a while.
    Its 4-man.
Mayo, Rose, Westbrook, then dont underrate Brook Lopez.
