With the first pick of the OCL draft...

The Miami Dolphins select...

JAKE LONG OT from Michigan

Quote:
Career Notes
Long started 40 games during his career, including his last 30 at left tackle...In his last two seasons, he registered 245 knockdown blocks, including 33 that resulted in Michigan touchdowns...In his last 26 contests, he allowed just three quarterback sacks and was penalized only once on 1,743 offensive plays.

http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/jake-long?id=278

Doomsday's analysis:

When your team just flat out sucks, You start by either rebuilding your offensive or defensive line. Chris Long can't be worth the number 1 pick, So I decided to give Ronnie Brown some help. The guy is 6'7" 315 pounds, and offensive tackles are hard to find, and they're all overpaid to begin with. Matt Ryan was an option, but Parcells will wait til next year to decide if a QB is needed in the first round.

Let's not forget, Miami is going to take atleast three years to get back on the right track, so this is probably the safest pick to make.

2. Stl Rams draft DE from OSU Vernon Gholston 6'3" 266lbs

Highlight video to show you what he is workin with

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE2y_ypR9wQ

42 inch vert
4.6 40 time
37 reps off the bench (225lb)

14 sacks last season (4 against Michigan, hello Jake Long!)

Vernon Gholston is a primere pass rusher and good in run defense. He was apart of an OSU that did very well vs the pass and also most importantly the run. Stl Rams enter the draft needing an edge rusher. With DT Adam Carricker, last years draft pick in the middle...Rams could use someone that can add pressure off the edge. Leonard Little is up in age and opposite him is James Hall who simply isnt producing/pulling his load. Vernon Gholston would fit perfectly. The knocks are he was a bit inconsistent...some games he looked like Dwight Freeney, other times you forgot he played. He should impact and help the Rams front DL bigtime.

With the third pick I select:

Defensive End, Virginia. With Jake Long off the board I take the safe pick. I am not convinced that Matty Ice is a franchise QB and refuse to handicap my organization by putting it's future in the hands of someone I have doubts about.

Chris has a hall-of-fame pedigree, and the versatility to be both a rush end and an outside linebacker. The cupboard is bare in the ATL and we select the best player(s) available.

With the 4th selection in the 2008 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select Darren McFadden
out of Arkansas

Russell and McFadden is a great future for our franchise, McFadden will run over NFL defenses immediately... after years of mediocre running backs, the Raiders finally get their franchise guy!

2008: Rd. 1, Pick 5
Kansas City Chiefs draft:
Jeff Otah. OL Pittsburgh
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 340

http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/je...campaign=gsi_g

Why: The Chiefs will have 10 selections in the 2008 draft, and by all accounts Kansas City must come away with reinforcements at OL, CB, and WR. Since OL is the Chiefs most pressing need, they will follow along the lines of the Levi Brown selection in 2007 by selecting positional need over the individual players on the board. Otah is a huge, physical, tackle who mauls defenders with his run blocking style. While he is not as polished of a pass blocker as Ryan Clady, the Chiefs are an offense that relies heavily on the running abilities of LJ

The exclusion of trades in this mock forces the Chiefs hand here. Ideally, KC would like to move down 5-10 spots in the draft once its clear the dream of Jake Long sliding to 5 has evaporated.

well you guys made this one easy...

the Jets are forced to take GLENN DORSEY here.

he is considered by some to be the best player in the draft and that includes McFadden...

I honestly think the odds of Dorsey falling all the way to the Jets are very very low...I have not seen a mock draft yet that doesn't have him going in the top 4 picks of the draft.

The Patriots select

Leodis McKelvin

After losing Asante Samuel, Randall gay, and Eugene Wilson the Pats have huge need at corner. Ellis Hobbs is the only corner who has been on the team last year. He has good hands, can tackle, good kick returner.

Very athletic...Has good size...Excellent timed speed with a burst to close...A solid tackler...Outstanding footwork...Great hands...Has fluid hips and is smooth in his transition...Natural man coverage skills...True playmaker who is a threat to take it the distance every time he gets his hands on the ball...Also a dynamic return man.

Look at a team like the Cleveland Browns. They have a lot of talented playmakers, but none of them could do anything two years ago b/c of their porous line play. They draft a guy like Joe Thomas, and that changes everything. You can have hall of fame talent at every skill position, but if the QB is gonna end up on his back in 2-3 seconds after the snap, then none of that matters.

Nothing "sexy" about drafting offensive lineman, but w.o them, every other player on the field becomes irrelevent.

With the 8th selection, the Baltimore Ravens select Matt Ryan.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ri1Kl-5YZgY
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IL1m6DDVGEU&feature=related

Baltimore drafts Ryan because they obvisouly need to go in a new direction at QB. This is a good situation for Ryan, a good defense, an above average line, a good RB, and a respectable group of recievers.
