Dirk won an MVP and lead his team to the finals. I'm not arguing that he's better than any of those players, but someone with that kind of a resumé should at least be an option.

But McHale is, although he never was the best player on his own team, only had one really good season which earned him his only All-NBA selection?
Dirk produces at a higher level, has more accolades and was a franchise player, unlike McHale.

McHale is one of the most overrated players here on ISH.

Just wondering, did you actually see Kevin McHale play? This is not meant as an insult, BTW.

Maybe those nba.com users thought the poll read "Who do you think is the greatest sized forward of all time"

Duncan is one of only four players to receive All-NBA First Team honors in each of his first eight seasons. Only Pettit (10), Bird (9) and Big O (9) recieved more consecutively.

Duncan is also the only player in NBA history to receive All-NBA and All-Defensive honors in his first nine seasons.

Duncan anchored the defense for the Spurs which was a top 5 D, at times 1, 2 in the NBA for years. Dont got the stats but a lot of them are ranked in the top 3 statistically in opp ppg, opp fg%, etc etc. He allows Bruise Bones to play agressive perimeter defense because he protects the basket and helps him if his man gets by. Great low post defender. And much like Shaq, he has that prescence on both ends where he doesnt need to do anything but have defenses, offenses focus on him and change the way they attack/defend.

Barkley offensive game was better in that he had the range, ball handling ability to take it coast to coast...but Barkely was more skilled than Shaq. Duncan spent his career inside 15 feet of the basket....his jumper was consistent and often used the glass as his trademark. But he did his damage inside. No need for him to extend his range and go beyond what he needed, his impact was inside the paint, downlow.

I did see a few games, and I've heard and read enough about him to make a fair assessment. He was a better defender and a great low-post scorer. But he wasn't anything else. He was a role-player. Don't get me wrong, a great player, but he didn't do anything on the court but score and defend his man. He didn't create for others, he got the the ball and tried to score, nothing more. Dirk's (and other great player's) impact is felt in many more ways. Philly, Phoenix depended on Chuck, Stockalone were the engine for the Jazz for 20 years, Tim Duncan has been the cornerstone of a dynasty for 8 years, Dallas rises and falls with Dirk. You cannot say the same for McHale, because he simply was not a franchise player. He was a great low-post scorer and defender, but that doesn't make a franchise player. He didn't impact his team the way Chuck and Malone did, Duncan Dirk and Garnett are doing right now.

McHale was not even close to the best pf ever....Both Duncan and KG are better then him now and Barkley, Malone, Duncan(if you call him a pf) are much better. McHale had great moves but had trouble passing out of the post and couldn't control a game like the others.

Wasn't implying he was the GOAT PF, but I thought 3% was a little low.

I don't consider Duncan a power forward, so the choice of Chuck is understandable. We will more than likely never see another Charles Barkely ever again. The combination of the way he played and the way he conducted himself off the court would never be allowed in today's measurable obsessed image-conscious NBA, and he would be mercilessly attacked even more than he was back in the day by the killjoy media.

Is it just me or is PF the thinnest position of them all when your start discussing the All Time greats?
