Default Sheed and wife would rather be in the Bahamas...

... poor Sheed, he got to replace KG on the NBA All-Star team instead. Booooo. No one wants him there anyways.

Quote:
PARADISE LOST

Rasheed Wallace is an All-Star for the fourth time. He's not thrilled.

"I'd rather be a Bahamanian," he said after the East team practiced on Saturday.

Detroit's combustible forward didn't plan to spend the NBA's midseason mini-vacation in New Orleans, but he was recently named a replacement for Boston's Kevin Garnett, who is sidelined with an abdominal strain.

So Sheed, where were you supposed to be?

"The Bahamas, man, me and my wife," he said. "She had it all planned out for us. But as you can see I got sidetracked to this."

Wallace, whose volcanic temper on the floor has earned him more than his share of technical fouls, was asked for his reaction when he learned he wouldn't be getting any time away from basketball.

"Hot," he said. "But she was more hot than me. She wanted to do it as a little surprise, but hey, we had to come here. I thought she was going to beat me up."

Wallace missed Friday's required media availability because he, ahem, missed a flight. But is that really what happened?

"It was the real joint," he said. "I wouldn't have done that or I would have not come at all. That was strictly accidental."

The guy is such a b!tch. He wouldn't survive in regular society at all and probably end up on welfare if he didn't have size and talent. No respect for his employers, obligations, or the fans who have given him what he has today. Human garbage to be blunt.

Just becaus he wants to rest for a weekend with his wife? Everybody is talking about him not having a worketich etc, but that he got so much talent. We all agree that Rasheed got a bunch of talent, but never used it right. He is not athletic compared to the rest of the NBA bigs. He has worked harder then anyone in here to become what he has become. Every played basketball? You know that the best guy at your team or in your area train a lot more then the others. Having that dedication is something not everybody got.

the fans pay his salary and Stern signs his checks. He's an employee crying about playing 15 minutes of basketball in front of little kids who worship him all because he can't go to the beach.

thats what it comes down to. give me the other "controversial" stars over this piece of garbage anyday. Melo won't stop talking about how its an honor and a dream come true to be there and getting to suit up again.

You guys whine more than Sheed.

I'm sure if any of you had vacation in the tropics planned, just you and your wife are going to enjoy some sun and some TLC, and you got called in to a work-related thing, you might not be all that excited. He's not a slave to the league, he's human and he works for a living. He just happens to play basketball to pay his bills.

You guys act like he owes us all something. Well it's symbiotic relationship. He gives us something and we, the fans, give him something. Don't pretend like the fans are all that matters and these guys are bball playing robots here for out pleasure.

Also, articles like that are annoying since it's obviously written with an angle (Sheed being some sort of villain for not being 100% enthusiastic about missing his vacation for the ASG).

"Fans" don't pay his salary, the owner of the Detroit Pistons does. There are no little kids worshiping him at the All Star game; majority of All star tickets go to sponsors the rest are so outrageously priced that there are basically no kids at the game.

The guy plays ball for 82 games a year, and has to travel every week during the season. Calling him a jerk for wanting to spend a weekend on a beach with his wife makes you a jackass.

Gate receipts are not what makes a players salary. Players get their salary from the TV contract within their media market.

For some people it is a honor to meet Carmelo Anthony, for it is not. Rasheed might not have the same love for the all-star game at all. It might have happend that Rasheed never cared about it when he was growing up unlike Melo.

If you had to be in the Detroit-area for the majority of your year, and were able to take a weekend off work to go to the Bahamas in the middle of February, you would be thrilled.

A lot of money comes from TV, but you're understimating the prices the fans pay. Fans have to pay for the ticket(s), parking, food, and gas. Some fans travel over an hour and just about all have to travel at least 20 minutes.

Assume the average fan travels 30 minutes to the stadium. That's an hour total and probably a quarter tank of gas. That's at least $10 worth of gas. Tickets cost probably $50 each. If you buy 2, that's $100. Figure $20 for food and another $10 for parking.

$10+ $100+ $20+ $10= $140x 20,000= $2,800,000 per game. The price may vary since some travel less than others and some may choose to eat at home. Don't forget the outrageous prices of beer either. Also, take the $2,800,000 and multiply it by 41 home games. That comes out to $114,800,000.

I don't know where a breakdown is but for most teams I'm sure ticket sales are the most important income
