I'm still waiting for anyone to show why Kobe is even an above average clutch player (amongst fellow star players).

Yes, he has hit a few gamewinners, but he took a lot of gamewinner attempts over the years.

Exactly. You could argue that he is slightly above average, but that is it, let alone "Most clutch ever". It's like saying Big Z is the tallest ever, he isn't even the tallest now, it just doesn't hold water and is easily disproved by anyone willing to do the slightest bit of research. Kobe isn't the CURRENT most clutch player. Sorry.

I saw that in a previous thread (maybe from yourself) but he doesn't seem smart enough to use reverse-psychology. Who knows, he may be a closet genius and we are all playing into his hands, but I just don't see it, just another BULLS, Bruinlove, etc. to me.

http://www.82games.com/random12.htm

Quote:
Game Winning Shot Opportunity = 24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points.
With 24 seconds or less, then it truly is a "last possession" situation potentially
With a margin from tied to down 2, the team can take the lead with a made basket (including 3's)
By excluding a down 3 situation, we don't have the "gimme two point buckets" that defenses will sometimes yield to the quick bucket/intentional foul strategy option you often see exercised.

Carmelo Anthony 11 17 .647
Ray Allen 8 18 .444
Michael Redd 8 19 .421
Steve Francis 8 20 .400
Allen Iverson 8 20 .400
Tracy McGrady 8 23 .348
Vince Carter 8 31 .258
Ben Gordon 7 13 .538
Dirk Nowitzki 7 19 .368
Paul Pierce 7 20 .350
Kobe Bryant 7 32 .219

Don't look like Kobe has done too well.

I can't wait for BULLS to see that Kobe has to shoot 250% the ammount of shots to do what Ben Gordon has done in this particular statistical category

I'm going to have to go with Bird on this one. There isn't a player I can think of that I would rather rely on in the clutch than Larry Legend.

Why would you go with Kobe? He's made an amazing 22% of his clutch shot since 2003. He's so clutch. Lebron is 21.% and Melo 65% over the same time.
As long as Kobe fans keep saying he's the most clutch I will be there to say the samething over and over
Kobe is 22% clutch. That is not CLUTCH.

Michael Jordan or Larry Bird. Both have hit numerous game winners, made tons of clutch defensive plays, and finished well down the stretch. And FYI, there's a difference between a clutch shooter and a clutch player.

And Hondo deserves some mentions here, too.

It's like no matter how many times it's PROVEN that Kobe is far overrated in the clutch, people still want to hold onto this "Kobe is the most clutch player" garbage.

This just shows you Knoe Itawl's theory that some people only care about status and not the TRUTH is valid.

At any rate, it's clearly Jordan then Bird then Reggie.

Kobe is 22% clutch. That is not CLUTCH.

This isn't a percentage of clutch shots. It's a percentage of shots taken under the following conditions:

Quote:
24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points.

In other words, even things like Kobe's shot which tied Detroit during the 2004 Game 2 are ruled out (because the Lakers trailed by 3). Remember when Reggie made 8 pts in a few seconds against the Knicks? Well, among all his points, only the last 2 will count, because before them, it was not a 1 or 2-point game. And so on.

Also, note that the sample is pretty small (2004-2006 regular season), taking into account only one of Kobe's winningest seasons. Finally, add that, if we believe these figures, guys like Billups and Nash were unclutch as hell, and even Mike Bibby wasn't really something that spectacular in this field, either.
