The same thing that happened to Jordan-Drexler.

LeBron is breaking away from the rest of the guys. He is also too busy competing with Kobe for best player in the NBA. Dwyane Wade won a championship and a Finals MVP. Carmelo isn't competing to be the best player in the NBA, nor has he advanced deep in the playoffs. If the Cavs and Nuggets were to meet in the Finals, the rivalry would be back, but until either 1)They meet in the Finals or 2)Carmelo all of a sudden becomes the best player in the NBA, the rivalry is dead.

individual rivalry---Lebron wins.

team rivalry---Melo wins.

Lebron is the better player but he would have no chance against Melo in a playoff series.

Not only that, but they were the first team since the 1993 Bulls to win a series after trailing 0-2.

I always have and always will believe it wasn't as much as the Cavs beating the Pistons as it was the Pistons beating themselves. The Cavs didn't simply beat them, the Pistons just didn't play as well as they usually do.

Cleveland doesn't match up well against Denver. They don't run like Denver, they can't dominate the offensive glass against Denver like they do against most other teams with Melo, Martin and Camby down there. No Cavalier can guard Iverson. Lebron is finally guarded by a player with size and strength in his league in Carmelo. Ilgauskas' valuability from his length is downgraded while he's being guarded by Camby. Denver forces turnovers. Karl is a better coach than Brown. The list goes on and on as to why Denver can beat Cleveland in a playoff series.

No chance, eh? I don't know if I would go that far. The Nuggets would be the favorites, probably, but it has more to do with the Nugs matching up extremely well against the Cavs than them being THAT much better.

There are several playoff teams in the West that the Cavs would be favored against in a playoff series. Denver isn't one of them. Styles win fights.

As for the OP...

A. LeBron has separated himself from nearly everyone else in the NBA. The only players on his level are Kobe and, arguably, Duncan (though I think Tim has aged this season).

B. It doesn't help that Melo NEVER would be matched up on LeBron, under any circumstances. For a real rivalry to occur, I feel like the two players have to defend each other, at least part-time.

C. There was never a rivalry to begin with. The media tried to manufacture one, but it just wasn't there. They seem like good friends who have fun playing against one another... That isn't a rivalry.

LeBron DOES have some real rivals. He and Kobe have begun a bit of a rivalry, though Kobe, at some point, is going to have to outplay LeBron when they matchup for it to reach its highest potential. So far, LeBron and the Cavs have pretty much owned Kobe and the Lakers (no offense Kobe/Laker fans).

Wade is a bit of a rivalry, but with the Heat being so down, it has made that rivalry somewhat lame. They do always play extremely well against each other, though (Wade had his best game of the season against the Cavs this year).

LeBron biggest rival is Paul Pierce and the Celtics. They have a general disdain for each other. As a matter of fact, the two teams just can't stand one another and it is obvious when they play. It always gets very chippy and there is always a ton of trash talk between both teams and usually between LeBron and PP. Unlike the others, this rivalry grew out of a true dislike for each other. It isn't manufactured by the media...

That is why a matchup in the playoffs is so appetizing.

If Lebron James can drop 48 points against one of the best defensive team in the NBA their is no way that the Nuggets can beat the Cavaliers in a best of 7 series.

Forgetting about Carmelo/LeBron, there's something about a Camby/Ilgauskas matchup that makes me want to wish for a Finals between these 2 teams.

That is BS. There is no 'fluke' over a seven game series. A three game series? Maybe... A five game series? Probably not... Seven games? No way...

Add to that the fact that the Cavs took Detroit to seven games in '06 and had them on the brink of elimination in Game 6 and this seems more like a trend than a fluke.

I agree with the second part of your post, except for the part about Melo guarding LeBron. He doesn't, normally. I've seen every Nuggets-Cavs game since 'Bron came into the NBA and they usually throw Eduardo Najera and/or JR Smith at LeBron with Camby protecting the rim.

Carmelo was winning by himself before they acquired Iverson.

Melo was dropping 30+ almost every night like LeBron and was carrying Denver on his back like LeBron did Cleveland at that time.

The two things that seperates them is Carmelo isnt as explosive and he is better in the post.LeBron is explosive and is better on the perimeter.

Its comparing a Power-Small Foward to a Point-Small Foward

yup its just matchups. there's teams in the West that are better than Denver that Lebron would beat in a series but he's 2-7 vs Denver.

bad matchups, bad styles clashing, etc. Don't get so offended Lebron fans. maybe you'll win on Sunday.
