Default Is Durant a chucker?

Seems to be putting up a lot of shots at a low percentage. What do you think?

He is their best offensive option and is on a very bad team. They are just concentrating on developing him as a player and are giving him a very long leash.

His team asks him to do it (well, at least the coaches and management do). Then again, I'm sure Durant enjoys the number of shots he is getting.

He is not the best offensive weapon they have.

Wally and Wilcox are stabilizing force on offense, plus the all-around game of Wilkins has been valued.

Durant is basically a gun that does very little to help his team win other than shoot. He has stroke, but he shouldn't be the focal part of that offense. Sonics are a disservice to the fans and players on the squad.

He is the future of the franchise and they are doing whatever they can to develop him into a superstar player that can carry the team for the next decade. It doesnt matter who is shooting for them they are still going to have a terrible record so why not let your future star get his experience now?

He's just a rookie, he'll learn to get others involved. But to answer your question, I don't think he's a chucker because he's putting up high point totals, and it's not a terrible field goal percentage (40 % isn't horrible for a rookie).

Szczerbiak and Wilcox are decent players, but I wouldn't call them stabalizing forces. If you're team has to rely on them as your best options, then you don't have a very good team. So trying to bring Durant along and show him what it takes to be a number one option on a team maybe the best thing the Sonics could do right now. Why would they try anything else, this team isn't going anywhere this season.

^ What he said.

I'd rather have Durant taking 20-25 shots a game than Wally or anybody else on that roster for the development of the franchise. I think he'll be up and down and mix in some 6-for-22's with some 14-for-20's. Hopefully by the end of the season he knows how to put up more latters than formers or at least what he has to work on to make it happen.

i like what the sonics are doing with durant. they are basically putting him in the game for big minutes and giving him the green light. IMO that is the best way for a young, potential superstar player to learn.. he doesnt appear to be nervous whatsoever, whereas if he was worried about being benched because of questionable shots who knows what would become of him.

That only works in the right systems though. Otherwise you create chuckers, thats exactly how Iverson developed, it probably set him back 3 years as an overall player.

Durant is chucking though, he forces his offense a lot, even more than he did in college, he has some solid teammates who can score and take pressure off him but he doesn't use them at all. It is worrying because he is not scoring at even a decent clip. Anything under 45% and you shouldn't be shooting as much as you are, it's really that simple.

if iverson wasnt allowed to do his thing who knows how he would have developed. maybe i'm wrong, but when you have a sh.itty team with a rookie who is obviously a superstar waiting to happen you may as well let him play and build up his confidence.
