Default Fantasy Draft Pick Preference

In a 10 team, 8-cat league would you prefer pick #1 or pick #6?

I've had my best success with a mid-first round pick. It helps that people overrate James and Wade so I usually can get someone like Arenas.

yeah I agree. That 20-21 wraparound sure is nice though.

In an 8-cat, 10 team, H2H league, does your stance change?

Obviously the rare cats are assists, steals, 3pm, and probably blocks.

I thought that was what the first question was?

But it probably wouldn't change if the league was bigger. I'd definitely prefer using a #6 on Arenas than a #1. Although I imagine the chances that Arenas will be there at #6 are not as good as they were last season. I just have a comfort level with being in the middle of rounds.

whoops, I didnt realize I layed out the league details in the first post...

lets say the first 5 to go are Garnett, Kobe, Marion, Arenas, LeBron.

Are you happy with Dirk at 6?

Not as nearly as happy with Dirk than everyone you mentioned besides LeBron (just because how I like to build my teams). So yeah, I would prefer to be in the first half than the latter half.
But Nash and Amare aren't exaclty trash either.

Article that I was reading last year said that in a 10 team league with a snake draft, 3 was the best draft position. They gave each pick a value and 3 came up with the highest score. Not saying that I buy it, but they made a good arguement.

yeah I tend to agree with you. So would you take Nash/Amare over Dirk?

I would not take Amare over Dirk. If I thought I could get a good big like Yao Ming in the second round I would really consider taking Nash. I like to get those high volume/high percentage freethrow shooters because they can cover a multitude of sins by my big men. You have to actually work to lose the FT% category with Dirk on your team.

I'd really love to come out of the first two rounds with Arenas and Ming again. They were such a great combo.

There are 5 elite players this year so the 5th pick is the best in my opinion. KG, Lebron, Arenas, Marion and Kobe. I had 5th overall and just had to wait for whomever fell. The next two I believe are Dirk and Nash. After that, you have a drop off. Still legit players but not as good as the top 7. Dirk at 6 you can't go wrong.

I just got finished drafting in a smaller 8 team league....I was the last pick and Arenas dropped to 8th for me. Then took Amare with my next pick....I like being at either end, first or last. You can look at two guys that you know you are going to team up together. I hate picking one and waiting several picks until my next one because my plan inevitably gets screwed by someone right before me. Mid pack is the worst for me.
