Iverson has lead his team to the finals with an average team. Granted, it was in the east, but considering the talent around him, and his production, his achievements should speak for themselves.
He's lead the league in ppg 4 times. Kobe has done it twice.
His career averages = 28/6/4 with 42% FG
Kobe's career averages = 25/5/4 with 45% FG
AI has 6 seasons averaging over 7 assists per game. Kobe has none.
AI has 8 AS appearances (AS MVP in 01/05), was the ROY in 97, and league MVP in 01.
Kobe has 9 AS appearances (AS MVP in 02/07), and he has no league MVP's.
AI was selected All-NBA team (1st team x3, 2nd team x3, 3rd team x1), and the All-Rookie 1st team in 97.
Kobe was selected All-NBA team (1st team x5, 2nd team x2, 3rd team x2), All-Rookie 2nd team in 97. Kobe also has 7 All-defensive team selections.
AI has lead the league in total steals twice, and steals per game three times.
Kobe never lead the league in anything except in the scoring categories (FT's, FG's, and points).
AI has 20,000+ career points, 4,600+ AST, and 2,800+ REB.
Kobe has 19,000+ career points, 3,500+ AST, and 4,000+ REB.
As much as both players have handled the ball, it's astounding that AI has 1,000+ more assists than Kobe.
In the playoffs, AI has averaged 30ppg+ 4 times, Kobe has done it twice.
AI has avergaged a double double in the playoffs (31/10), Kobe hasn't ever averaged a double double in the playoffs.
Kobe has 3 rings, AI has none. Replace AI with Kobe on their respective squads, and I'm pretty sure AI would have 3 as well.
AI has a complete game as far as perimeter players go. He has a mid range shot, is still one of the quickest players in the league, he can finish in traffic around the basket, and he can hit from outside. His ball handling skills are not debatable. He is a deadly scorer and he uses his quickess to be an effective defender.
The knock on AI is his low FG%, but when he's hot, he's just as money as any other player in the league. The same thing can be said about Kobe. Both players are volume shooters and they handle the ball more than any other player on the team (that may change for AI now that he's in Denver).
If you are looking for a more reasonable comparison to Kobe, look to AI.
