Because he was the tallest center and man back in 60s.

If he was playing today, he would only average only about 14 rpg? and 21 ppg?
you can't say that with certainty though. he would very likely be the best player in the league today if he grew up watching the greats like kareem, hakeem, and shaq.

Yes yes. But Bill Russel and Wilt the Stilt were the best centers back then.

Of course they were the best, but who said there was nobody they played against.

True. The NBA is soo much more athletic, refined, and evened out that being a titan like these guys were is tougher. There is more parody in the league. A lot of the oldies, transported in their primes to the modern NBA, wouldn't be as sucessfull.

But, what if they began as players preparing for the modern NBA. When I look at sports history I don't weigh stats as much as dominance. If you are the best of your time, you have that mindset and could maybe do it in another era. MVP's and titles start to count a lot more than points and rebounds.

Wilt was the most athletic player in the NBA in his day, and he was a 7'1 275 lbs center.

Wilt would dominate the league today.

If he was playing today, he would only average only about 14 rpg? and 21 ppg?

1) How many times was the tallest man in the league the best player in the league? Not many: Mikan, Wilt (when he was the tallest), Kareem (when he was the tallest), and then what?

2) In the same league that Yao Ming is averaging 25 ppg in just 34 minutes per game, Wilt, who was much more talented, athletic and durable is supposed to average 21? There's no logic between this assumption. Taking his skills into consideration, Wilt would lead the league in scoring (among other things) multiple times.

Kareem, no doubt.
Played in the era of modern b-ball (post-1970).
Played against real centers and Totally dominated.
and, oh, 6-time MVP.
and then there's the sick stats.
