that is what the NBA players do. they set up foundations under their name, like the Tim Duncan Foundation, or the Shaquille O'Neal Foundation and all the money they would normally pay in taxes, they give to their non-profit foundation which has a board of directors. the board decides where the money goes. usually the head of the board is the wife of the player. if the wife is smart they usually find really good organizations to donate money to.
if your city has long term players they have a foundation in their name. ill say about 40-50% of NBA players have a foundation. i know in san antonio, tim duncan, bruce bowen, brent barry, manu ginobili, and tony parker all have foundations which put together charity events like bruces fitness walk, and tim duncans charity golf classic.
