Horrible trade. Knicks are overloaded at PG and have no one else at C so they trade their only C for a PG and a backup? Makes lots of sense from them.
Then the Lakers, who by trading Kobe admit to rebuilding, are going to make the centerpiece of the Kobe trade a guy who plays the same position as the only player they think is going to be a star? So they should go 2 deep at C with potential and have nothing else?
For me the best Kobe deal is still Hinrich and Gordon with a future first. Same basically as the Lakers got for Shaq, 2 good players who will never be a star and a pick that isnt going to be great most likely.
Chicago does it because Duhon fits perfectly next to Kobe anyway, Deng is the perfect compliment(a do it all guy who works well without the ball). Lakers get their PG and SG of the future, they draft a PF and they are set.
Lakers would look like this
PG - Hinrich
SG - Gordon
SF - Odom
PF - Whoever
C - Bynum
Hinrich is a rock solid PG who plays very good defense but doesnt need the ball a lot. Odom is a great compliment to Gordon, he operates well with the ball and passes well, he becomes a much better player without Kobe. Bynum is the guy they are banking on becoming a superstar and they are a legit contender.
Bulls go with:
PG - Duhon
SG - Kobe
SF - Deng
PF - Nocioni(Thomas)
C - Wallace
They are athetic, decent size, legit go to guy, two guys who should thrive playing with him and great hustle and defense inside.
That is the best I can see. Both teams are still potential contenders which is the key to a good trade. Both probably get better(Bulls should, Lakers can) which is important and also importantly, they both add players that compliment who they have left at the end.
The Lakers could then try and swing an Odom trade for a PF if they feel the need given this draft figures to produce some very good SFs in the Lakers draft range and not much in the PF department.

I think Hinrich is already more than a solid pg, and can improve. I think its great that he can work off the ball and keep his assists up, and I think with a big man he can be atleast an 8 assist guy. Plus his defense and shooting, I think he can be a better Chauncey Billups.
Point being, I wouldn't trade him if Im the Bulls. Not at all.

Yeah but Kobe can do the same sort of thing and he can flat out take over a game. Hinrich is not much better at creating for others than Kobe. Gordon is effectively a "throw in" in this trade. They basically trade Hinrich for Kobe and they have Duhon who can give them 15 points and better defense. Thats a big reason to do it. Bulls should represent the East for the next 4 years if they do this deal and dont screw it up.
For me thats a risk worth taking. Right now the Bulls are basically a chance, but they arent ahead of Detroit or Cleveland and Boston should close in this year, Nets can beat them, Toronto are improving fast and Orlando are only Hill returning from being a team that can compete with them.
