Something to keep in mind, though, is that Marcus is tight with sophomore-to-be phenom Jereme Richmond, who has already committed to Illinois. Recruiting guru Bob Gibbons recently said that Richmond is one of the top two players in the 2010 class (Marcus is in the '09 class). When Richmond first committed, my reaction was, "Who cares, he can't sign for three years." But after closer examination it appears his commitment could have some wide-ranging benefits for our future recruiting, and don't be surprised if bringing the younger Jordan along is one of them, even if he is good enough to garner big-time national attention.

Not sure if you knew this but Marcus is transferring to Whitney Young High School to play with Richmond and also Chris Colvin who is another top player in Illinois. Just another connection between the two.

I knew Marcus was transferring to Young, but Jereme doesn't go there. He goes to a small private school in Waukegan. If Jereme was also transferring to Young then this is the first I'd heard of it.

LOL never mind. Just re-read the article and he plays on the same AAU team as Jerome. That should be a pretty good team.

Combo guard or wing. Probably not what you'd call a true point guard.

Jereme, on the other hand, could end up being 6'9" and being legitimately able to play anything between the 1 and the 4. I've read several coaches and scouts saying he's at least at the same level that Derrick Rose and Jon Scheyer were at as freshmen, and possibly even better.

What was even nicer to read was a youth coach that coached both him and Scheyer saying that as obsessed as Scheyer with Duke from when he was really young, Jereme is even more obsessed with Illinois and wouldn't talk about anything else. So even though November 2009 is a long way away, I think it's safe for Illinois fans to feel good about this kid.

Marcus could be an All-American by his senior year, he was only a sophomore and was good, and is one of the top guards in Illinois in 2009, which is saying something.
