MVPs make the players look much better than they are.. that's what Dirk does.. like Shaq it doesn't show up with asisists.. it's his mere presence..

the meaning of "MVP" has been distorted to mean "most overachieving individual best player on the best team" so that the real MVP doesn't get it every single season. because if that were the case, MJ, Hakeem, Shaq and Duncan would have all the MVPs of the last 20 years. so they mix it up. and this is how.

you haven't heard Duncan's or Bron's name in the media all season have you? no. and that's by design. because Duncan's hype time is over, and they're saving Lebron (and Wade) for later. media's milking Dirk and Nash for all they're worth at this point.

so that the mvp race can be interesting. encourage people to watch games. you know that Suns/Mavs was one of the most highly watched reg season games EVER on nat'l TV? bingo- that's 100% media driven. and 70% of that is the individual MVP candidates matching up, NOT the teams themselves.

so I just want to make sure everyone realizes that, when it comes right down to it, the MVP isn't about who is the most valuable player. it's about marketing. it's about rewarding a great player who does a great job over the course of a season and wins a lot of games. but it's NOT about who is the most valuable player. therefore it should NOT change how highly a player is rated, or what you think of that player! Dirk is no less or greater a player should he win the award or not, so Mavs fans, I'm talking to you Fab, stop demolishing the rest of your team in rhetoric to make it seem like Dirk deserves it because NOBODY with a chance to win actually does.

ISH should have an "Owned Log," so when something like this happens, we can record the person who got owned and what was said to them...

Props GeeWiz...

Is that why Bron's name was in the MVP race last year when he actually had a better year last year comparing to this one?
I guess maybe NBA tried to market Bron and decided that sh*t we were wrong
lets give it to the white boys for a couple more years

it used to be who was the best player, period.
But the MVP criteria has been twisted through out the years

I just don't think that right now anyone is the "clear" 1st place for MVP
anyone may make a case for
Duncan who's Spurs team is too old and won't be able to do much due to management but not him
Dirk who suffered from Avery's coaching last night and looked horrible
Nash who plays a style that has never won a ship and still may not win one this year
Kobe being on a mediocore team
Lebron having a year that was worse than last year and being inconsistent throughout the year

I think out of those 5, it wouldn't be justified for the bottom 3 to win

but no, it's not just marketing..................
good try tho.

The MVP is about the most valuable player in the NBA. My understanding is his presence and leadership makes his team and teammates playing level higher, the end result being they perform at their highest level in the regular season to give them the greatest advantage for the playoffs.

Examples of MVPs
Dirk - fulfills that understanding
Nash - fulfills that understanding
Duncan - fulfills that understanding
Shaq - fulfills that understanding

LeBron, Wade, Kobe and the Houston duo, are not there yet. Previous MVPs, KG - had AS Sprewell and Cassell to do the real man work, Iverson - making the NBA Finals in his position was outstanding (I would have given it to Shaq)

Those four are the only ones that should be recognised as MVPs, the others, the responsibility falls on the inablility of the supporting cast. I may say that LeBron is close to making it five.

IMO Josh is better than Z and Odom but even if you think that he isnt you still have the Jet, Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, and Dampier. That us better than the Lakers and Cavs roleplayers.

I stopped reading right here. The fck do you mean they're SAVING it for later???????? You can fckin WATCH the game and see they're not the MVPs. It wouldn't have mattered how much media hype they got.

Blew your argument right there.

When did anybody put Olajuwon over Jordan? The very minute that Hakeem finished dragging his team of spares to an NBA championship over the toughest possible road, do you think anybody was lining up to place him over MJ?

So, even for you, 'MVP' isn't the same thing as 'best player', is it?

I'm tired of people acting like Nash and Dirk are the best players in basketball because they're not. they might be top five. might. they're the best players on the teams that won the most games therefore they get MVP consideration. neither player deserves it. at all.

I realize things like... expectation, past performance, hype, wins, etc have to factor into it because the media doesn't want to give Duncan 6 straight MVPs. and Jordan one every year he played. etc. I'm just saying... who cares if its Nash or Dirk? neither guy deserves it. whats to argue about. 2 not-top-5 players, 2 players who either way would be one of the weakest MVPs in the history of the game.

I'm just tired of idiots making top 10 lists that are like this

1. Nash... 2 time MVP. "Nuff said."
2. Dirk... best player on a 67 win team. "Nuff said."
3. DWade... Finals MVP. "Nuff said."

NO. it's not "nuff said." there is no such thing as nuff said if your IQ is above 80. it requires abstract thought and comparison to figure out who the best players are. this MVP award is just so terribly misleading. if you think the above list is true but have actual reasons for it that are somewhat valid, then fine. but I'm not sure how you possibly could.

is anyone going to try to argue with me? I'm really not sure if the media has completely programmed this board or not. it's tough to tell.
youre full of ****. no offense but you have absolutely no clue what the hell you are talking about.
