If a specific team I'm rooting for is playing, obviously I prefer a block that we can control. Perhaps one angled toward the corner that we could get without much trouble.

However, blocks from behind take the cake for me. It's actually kind of funny. All kinds of players tend to go up on breakaways straight at the rim, and just let the ball roll up off their fingertips (a finger-roll if you will ), and those are the ones that normally get blocked. It's the split second longer in the air that allows the defender to get the block. If these guys just go to the side for a regular layup, it could cut down on a lot of those breakaway-type blocks.

The best block is if you swat the shot or even better pin the ball against the backboard.
