Re: Okay, this is just unreal... (Kobe scoring topic)
I would have loved to see Wilt play against Shaq, both at their primes... It would have been a true battle of the beasts. I think Wilt would have taken him and been the MDE of the league.
Too bad we cant manipulate time and make stuff like that happen!

IMO, you can't praise Babe for his 714, without also praising Josh Gibson's 800+ HR's.
Ya know?
Josh Gibson didnt play in the MLB and he didnt face better pitchers either. You can acknowledge Josh Gibson but why would it be praised as an official MLB stat?

Players measured for official height without shoes then....with shoes now. Ever look at combine measurements for with and without shoes? Its quite a difference.
Bill Russell in shoes was 6'10'' and a half and Wilt gave him 60. Got 55 boards vs him. Nate thurmond was 7'1''. Swede Halbrook was 7'3''. Walter Dukes was a 7 footer before Wilt and didnt do ****. Lanier 7 feet tall. Hayes 6'11''. Boerwinkle was 7'1''. Pettit 6'10''. Kareem 7'2 or 3. Bellamy 6'11'' and a half. The small bigmen were 6'7'' Unseld who was something of a Barkley type of his day, Jerry Lucas who was 6'8'', and Dave Debusschere. Oh and Gus Johnson who was something like Marion. But 3 of them were forwards anyway. Cowens 6'10''. Reed 6'10''.
There were no midgets. The small centers in Wilts prime(late 20s early 30s) were the same size as the small centers now and Wilt was just as good. Centers arent just giants today. Shaq has not played a starting center listed over 7 feet tall in 11 games. In wilt last title run he played and knocked out 7'2'' or 3 Kareem, 7+ Boerwinkle, and then Lucas on a team with 6 hall of famers. On Shaqs last title run he played Tyson Chandler/Sweetney, Jason Collins, Ben Wallace, and Eric Dampier. The best player on that list is a 6'7'' center in a discussion about how small Wilts comp was. Shaq has probably not played a center nearly as good as Kareem in his prime since the 1995 finals. Wilt in his prime had as much comp as Shaq did(or more) at the 5 in his last 10 years(Hakeem, Ewing, and Drob fell off after 97 or so).
Re: Okay, this is just unreal... (Kobe scoring topic)
Anybody doubting Wilt's greatness shouldn't even talk about basketball. Wilt was a Top 3 player of all-time. That actually says a lot. One of the best 3 that have ever been on the court.
Re: Okay, this is just unreal... (Scoring topic, 60+)
well he haveraged 50ppg one year so the 32 doesnt surprise ,me. i think he was just bigger and taller than anyone at the time so he had a big adavnatge over every1 he was playing against. another impressive stat was that oscar robertson averaged a triple double one year and came close to it a few other years (while avging about 30ppg). probably also skewed by the time he played
Is it just me or is he one of those players who although has great stats doesn't look nearly as impressive as he looks when you actually watch him play?
For example, you have guys like LeBron, maybe even Marion and some other players who end up with for example 30 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists but just from watching the game you don't notice how good of a game they play...until you look at the stats.
Trust me, I'm not disrespecting any other aspect of the game like passing and rebounding but it's just...the way those guys score and play..it just doesn't seem that impressive until you look at the box score.
However, when you watch Kobe and all the shots he makes..yes I know that 2 points are 2 points but just wow....things he does out there are just unreal.
Some of you may mention Duncan here but I'm definitely impressed with him just by watching him. You can see that he dominates the game with his fundamental play and everything else..
He doesn't make it exciting as Kobe but you can definitely see that he does some amazing things out there...
2nd thing is....
How well you think Kobe would play with Nash or Kidd?
When the guys are actually setting him up he's unstoppable.. Not that he already isn't but when he has people to set him up, it's just a whole different game.
BTW, who are the others players who impress you when you watch them but they don't look that impressive when you read the stats?
Who are the players who don't look impressive but have good or great stats?
Sorry for another Kobe topic. If you don't like it, just respond to the last question. NHF. Thank you.
Yeah, I've noticed that. I think he would score less with a good PG on his team because they would also be setting up his teamates as well. However, it would take a lot of the load of creating offense of Kobe's shoulders and his other stats would increase.
