Its probably been discussed many times but looking back now at that draft year, do u think Houston should have picked up Jordan? Do you think Jordan would have been successful without the triangle offense of Phil Jackson?
Olajuwom was the clear cut number one pick in 1984. On Michael Jordan relative would have picked him over Hakeem in the draft. Jordan hadn't made a name for himself yet.
Also don't forget Akeem was more successful then MJ at the begging, leading Houston to the Finals in his second season.
Nope. At the time, Olajuwon was the right pick for the Rockets. You guys had a young Ralph Sampson, you were set. And going with Jordan instead of Olajuwon, might not have worked out for the Rockets. Just be happy you guys did not go after Sam Bowie...OMG!!!
Olajuwon was the better pick for the Rockets. Ralph Sampson and he would have made an unstoppable backcourt had he not have gotten injured. Hakeem was dominant at the center position, which the Rockets needed to go deep into the playoffs. They would have to face David Robinson, Charles Barkley, and eventually Shaq. Hakeem plowed through Barkley and Robinson, and he kicked Shaq's ass in the finals. Houston made the right pick.

Yeah poor Bowie. The Nets drafted him and because he didn't live up to this potential (AND picked after arguably the best player in NBA history), he will have to take the criticism for the rest of his life.
