Default Introducing a new NBA statistic: The Kobe Assist

I think this guy is full of it but it's an interesting read nonetheless. I respect the research put into it

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...ic-kobe-assist

Quote:
However, while Nash was busy playmaking and while Kobe was busy jump shooting, Dwight Howard had taken about seven steps toward his happy place the restricted area fought off the gigantic DeMarcus Cousins, and gained optimal rebounding position. Kobe's miss ricocheted upward from the rim before descending back down into the hands of Howard, who quickly put the ball in the basket; the Staples crowd went wild (in the dark). Did Kobe just miss a shot or did he just inadvertently set up Dwight Howard for an easy score? Are some of Kobe's missed shots actually good for the Lakers? Are some of his misses kind of like assists?

Wouldn't surprise me if kobe missed on pourpose for the best interest of the team, it also explains a few oddly missed buckets by him.

Iverson woulda had more of these. And then there's Steve Francis and Marbury and Pistons Jerry Stackhouse...basically, all the chuckers.

But get this, Chris Paul, Wade, and Lebron and all the efficient players not only make their shots at a higher rate, but they would also have a significant amount of these assists. Amazing.

I'm going to use this when people talk shit about Kobe's fg%. Virtually all of Kobe's missed shots were missed on purpose to set up his teammates. He could make them all but he sacrifices for the team. Kobe is that unselfish.

So in Kobe's world:
- missed shots = assists
- throwing teammates under the bus = motivating teammates
- rape = consensual sex

Ok.
