On a stacked team 30-35 PPG would be expected, but on a crappy team 40-45 PPG would be normal for prime MJ.

Even on championship contender MJ could average 40+ PPG if its build like AI's Sixers. All defenders with Jordan free to chuck.

You have to be my favorite poster on the site.

People keep forgetting that it ALL has to do with how the team is built.

He can still be in a championship team if the team is built for him to dominate the ball offensively.

Bron's teams on the Cavs were close to that, but he wasn't effective enough at that point (for some seasons), and he doesn't have a scorer's mentality. Yet he made it to the Finals at an early age.

Had he been more aggressive and more efficient they may have won. People always criticized his lack of aggressiveness.

MJ would've been a player that's in between Kobe and Bron regarding his aggressiveness. Aggressive enough to score and dominate when needed, but not force things and disrupt the team's chemistry.

If Horace Grant says it then it must be true.

Michael Jordan would probably averaged around 30-35 on a great team with great efficiency. Perhaps not close to 35+, but I don't doubt that he couldn't. No doubt he would still be the best scorer today in his prime.

By the way, Phil Jackson also said Jordan could score 45+ today. The only way I see Jordan doing anything close to 40+ is if his team doesn't have the scoring and defensive talent around him (defense get stops) and if his coach allows to take as many as he wants.

I would actually be more interested in seeing what he would do in the playoffs. Considering he's like 33/6/5/2/1 on 48/33/82 player... Can't say he wouldn't meet those averages or even do better given the opportunity today, but again, would depend on the team.

Jordan said that in the 90s he could average 40 ppg, but that it would have hurt the team.

Not really. Brad Daughtery would be like modern Hibbert, and Brad was a weak defensive center in his day.

I'd think Brad would be better than that.

More like a modern Marc Gasol or Joakim Noah.

I don't think 45 is realistic, but somewhere between 35-40 doesn't seem too outlandish. It would depend on the situation, though. What if you put him on a run-n-gun, ball in his hands all the time, free reign to do what you want team like the Rockets last year? A team that doesn't have a legit second option, but still a couple or so decent third option types and good shooters to space the floor?

Because I think you could put someone like Durant on last year's Rockets, and he'd average 32ish PPG. Jordan was a superior scorer and player, no? So why isn't something like 37+ PPG, on a team like that with their offensive philosophy, crazy? Do the Rockets win the championship? Probably not. But they go from being a 47-win 8-seed, to 55ish win top 4 seed and at least some sort of threat to make it out of the West.
