Default Horace Grant: "Michael would average 45 PPG today"

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports...,2997421.story

Quote:
“No, you can’t compare (eras),” he said. “The rules have changed so much from our days and the Heat’s days. It was more physical back then. Today you can run around without getting touched. Today, Michael Jordan would average about 45 points.”

Its no mountain lion or 20,000 women but let us have our moment

What this ***** smoking?

I understand the rules now are more suited for guards but MJ is still an old man.

He means in his prime and even Kobe today admit the rules favor guards.

MJ could average 40+ ppg, but not on a championship team. I think he could average around 35ppg while playing on a championship contender.

Well he did average close to 35 one year. However no not unless he was trying to do it. Hell Kobe averaged 35.

He actually averaged 37... but he needed 28 shots to do it. For comparison, Kobe led the league in field goal attempts last year, and only shot 20 times a game. (When Kobe got 35 he shot 27 times a game)

My point being that shots per game matter. Now, if we take Horace Grant's argument seriously... we will see that Jordan "only" shot 48% when shooting 28 times a game. Perhaps with current rules, he would shoot a higher percentage leading to around 40 ppg. But his team wouldn't win the championship with him taking so many shots.

Jordan averaged 37 in his 3rd season.

OOOOh.

My fault

Of course he would. Kobe is right about the rules also.

He would, but he'd be completely spent by the end of the season.

Anyone can, if they take enough shots.

By the way, when you look at their career, you'll notice that when they were shooting the same number of shots per game in their prime, Jordan performed better than LeBron, who performed better than Kobe.

No team with one player averaging 40 a game is winning a title, so who cares really?

I would like to see that without 110 pace and with no 3 point shot. Good luck leading your team to lottery by jacking midrange jumpers all game long.

I'm surprised he said that bout MJ. He always resented borderline hated MJ. Used to come off as biter and even hating on MJ in past interviews. I guess he finally got his goggles cleared up.

Really? I didn't know that.

You got any links to the interviews?

I think I heard some where that Grant and Pippen were best friends
