Greatest shot blocking SG of all time

the 1st player since michael jordan to record something like 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season (i think it was 2009)

and still, 0 nba all defensive 1st teams.

kobe ridin that brand name reputation took some away from wade

He hasnt made any NBA all defensive first teams? Who the heck is beating him to the spot besides Kobe and why? What does Wade lack compared to the guys who got the spots.

He's essentially the exact opposite of Kobe.

Kobe being a show pony gets up to play man defense against big name players, and he's great at it when he tries. He conserves energy in team defense and rotations. Basically is a lazy team defender.

LeBron is a great rotation defender. He's a decent help defender, but he wreaks havoc in passing lanes. When he tries he's a decent man defender, better than Wade in that regard, worse than Bryant when both are geeked up to play it. He actually usually lets his man beat him and attempts to recover with his length. Also to not draw fouls.

On average LeBron is the most consistent defender of the three. But he isn't as exceptional at any particular aspect as either Wade with weak side help / blocking shots, or Kobe's man defense.

The defensive abilities of the 3 best post MJ perimeter players in a nut shell.

This is actually really accurate. It's funny when people complain about Lebron not fouling but don't watch him actively avoiding fouls, often to the point of him letting people score. It's actually kind of annoying as a Heat fan when you want him to play tougher man D.

Btw Wade when he wanted to be was a nasty man defender, his long arms really help with strips steals and blocks on 1v1s, just lazy or conditioning.

He's a good on ball defender if his man is a scorer.

Which is why he was the Heat's most consistent defender vs Paul George the last 2 years...

Where things can go pear shaped is if you try to stick him on a dude who only stands in the corner, he becomes disinterested in him and tries to make something happen where the ball is and can get burnt by a scrub. If a star gets 20 on Wade its gonna be 7/18, a "scrub" could go 5/9 from 3.

someone once posted a stat that shows wade has more blocks on the individual he's guarding than any other player in the league. those kind of plays where a player is facing his defender and he pulls up for a jumpshot and the defender goes straight up to block it. ive never seen another player do it more.

wade is more than just a weak side shotblocker. he does it in every way possible. on the perimeter, manning the paint, weak side, etc.

Wade's man defense is criminally underrated, he does have a tendency to allow guys to go buy him though and rely on his athleticism and length to recover though.

The idea he's a liability playing head up D is nonsense though.

Long arms/hand, great two-feet leaper, great timing/instincts, and most of all, great pride/determination for blocks.

He is regarded as being one of the best shot blocking GUARDS of all-time, second only to Michael Jordan. If you look at Wade and Jordan's total blocks in playoffs, Wade has a chance to actually be the #1 shot blocking guard of all time during playoffs. He will either end up #1, or a close #2 (which he is right now).

Side note: How many other times do you see a 6'4 rim protector. It's insane, Wade will stand and guard the paint at times like he is the rim defender for his team, at a respectable 6'4

Michael Jordan has the most total playoff blocks among all guards, all time, at 158.

Dwyane Wade stands at 148. It's safe to say he will become the #1 after the 2014 post season. In his last 3 seasons, Wade blocked 23, 30, and 28.

Wade is a monster at rebounding and blocking shots. Or was in his "prime."

Dude is amazingly strong, too. It's mostly the fact that he is able to block shots like a C when he is small. Is he a better shot blocker than, say, Barkley? Hard to tell, but in terms of guards, who is better? Especially true guards that are primarily SG or PG/SG SG/PG (and not SG/SF.)

You could say MJ and that's about it. But it's debatable. Plus title says "one of the best."
